Thanks for the information. Really good trick to get a little bit more live out of the alusil blocks.

I’ll update again when it’s back together to let everyone know if it changes leak down results or causes oil burning but given the mechanism of action of Sunnen An-30 I couldn’t see that it wouldn’t be beneficial to try.

@@JesseBreaks any news? about to give this a shot for a refresh before e30 swap...

have you ever found a source for felt pads that you could use on a drill or something much like a stone or ball hone?
@JesseBreaks9 ай бұрын
Yes. The ultimate solution for this is the Lisle 15000 ridgid hone. Each set of lisle stones comes with wiper felts. You simply buy the felts and run them with the An-30 paste for perfect results.

Hi! I've got an audi with an alusil block. There are 0 scoring marks, they look perfect; BUT there is like slight discoloration on the edges of the walls. As if the sides were more shiny, when the walls otherwise are kinda 'milky'. My tech told me it's a coating that has worn out. It is a linerless design tho...
@JesseBreaks11 ай бұрын
Yes Audi uses this same process. The milky appearance is the micro texture left by the paste, fine scratches to allow for lubricant adhesion. If the cyls polish off they will eventually score due to lack of lubrication.

Any recommendations for wear on the camshaft journals in the cylinder head? I have some heads with minor wear in some of the cam journals and caps. Some barely catch a fingernail but it’s noticeable and I’d like to clean it up
@JesseBreaks11 ай бұрын
Take an extremely fine grit paper like 1000-2000 grit, remove cam and bolt the cam cap back on, and lightly buff out and smooth the scoring. Low spots in the scoring aren’t the issue, you just want to remove the high spots and smooth out the journal surface. No need to polish any light texture from the paper will hold oil and help retain oil pressure.

I have an m113k alusil block with scratched cylinder walls...could I use this paste to fix my block ?
@JesseBreaks6 ай бұрын
If the cylinder walls are scored you will need to overbore until scoring is removed, finishing with 800 grit stones and then this AN-30 paste. Will require larger pistons and rings etc.

How did it run ?

Engine has now done 15k km's without any oil burning at all!

Hey Jesse. Do you have some remaining paste for sale?

Unfortunately none for sale. Stuff’s hard to come by!

Hey there 🤙🏼 I’m currently rebuilding a 4.6is engine from a 2003 X5 4.6is. I’m really wanting to completely re-ring it and replace one piston that had minor surface damage so it doesn’t develop hot spots. I’d love to chat with you more in depth about the step-by-step on this because I don’t want to fuck up this block. They’re virtually impossible to find now and it’s in pretty damn good shape for its 200k+ mileage. The AluSil walls are really freaking me out cuz I don’t want to mess up that Silicon crystal formation at all or not bed the new rings in properly. Really would appreciate the help!

Hey Tyler, I have lots of info and experience to share on these. Are you able to DM me on here, or is there a way I can reach you?

Runs great I have 2000km on it now. See my other vids for it running.

Why did you only do one cylinder and not the other 7 cylinders as well?
@JesseBreaks2 жыл бұрын
Did all cylinders, just only showed the process on one in the video.

You can’t hone with pistons still mounted!!!!! Sorry
