Alvin Stardust performs his first major hit 'My Coo Ca Choo' which got to number 2 in the British Hit Singles chart in November 1973. That was nearly 40 years ago and it's hard to believe Alvin is nearly 71 and still giving it his all. A great night was had by everyone, thanks Alvin, truly a great all round performer, entertainer and legend Rock and Roller..
Nantwich Civic Hall is a great venue for music concerts as you are able to dance and get right up to the stage to enjoy the concert at close range.

He died today but still performed last Saturday. You cannot be anything but an admirer of such a proffessional. It was people like him that made my teenage years so effing brilliant. All sorts of people in Intersting clothes kept me entertained on TOTP.Sad he is now gone and I feel that as each one of these people slip away part of me slips away as well.Alvin.RIP

Alvin was one of the good guys. A friend of my mum went on a couple of dates with him in the 60s (when he was called Shane Fenton). She said he was an absolute gentleman. RIP Alvin.

Notice he sounds just like the original recording even though Pete Shelley sang on the original. I'm guessing that he was also able to imitate Johnny Theakston's vocals on the Shane Fenton and The Fentones demo tape well enough to fool the BBC producers.

I am. All his Hits were very nice tracks. Better than a lot of the Glam-Rock from that Era. We now know that it wasn't his voice on that record, but he had absolutely no problem singing it Live. Great Artist; he owned this song.

We had the privilege of opening a show for Alvin. It was an education - and we were old stagers. He was amazing and very humble. A lesson in how to conduct yourself as a musician and a human being. He missed nothing, thanked everyone praised everyone and everything - except himself. Oh and his show was Terrific. He could still Rock and Roll. A real loss. A class act.

I'm watching this almost 12 months after it's posted, so Alvin must be nearly 72. He looks great for his age and can still sing. Saw him play live over 10 years ago, at the N.E.C. during a 1970s concert which also featured Rubettes, Showaddywaddy, Roy Wood etc. Good performer. And I still have his 'The Untouchable' LP from 1973...

What a lot of people don't realise is that the vocal isn't that of Alvin Stardust (Bernard Jewry) on the original studio recording. The vocal is by Pete Shelley, who was the one who originated the Alvin Stardust persona. Although he had already appeared as the original Alvin Stardust on the Lift Off television programme, Shelley was surprised when the record went straight into the chart the following week. As he had no desire to become his own stage name creation, he and Magnet Records boss Lord Levy both agreed that if this act were to become more than just a one-hit wonder, then a "face" was required to be, and perform as, Alvin Stardust. The ideal person appeared, Shane Fenton (Bernard Jewry), who then mimed to Pete Shelley's vocal on Top of the Pops. All the hits after this one featured his own voice. And please, look it up before disbelieving me or saying I'm talking shit.
