Out of the whole album I keep coming back to this song, it just grabs me. The lyrics are so on point, I can’t shake it.

This always takes me back to Wendy James, her band Transvision Vamp, and their album "Velveteen" from the late 80's. I was 16 when I listened to it and was absolutely in love with the song "The Only One". This is a far different band, sound and time, of course, but it makes me wonder if Alvvays listened to Wendy & the Co when they were kids/teens/young adults. Makes you wonder, as I think this tune is very much anchored in some of that lovely, punchy pop sound of the 80's. Now, if I could only find an old Yamaha PSR 4500 to rock along with it :)

[Lyrics] (Velveteen) (Velveteen) (Velveteen) I see you getting fit I can't make sense of it At night, you roll up your jeans And pull on your velveteen Tonight you're on the stairs What are you doing there? Take off your lethargy And down the banister you slide Who is she? Because I know that it can't be me Who is she? Because I know that it can't be A closet full of lace Acquired recently Who am I to debase In this economy? Is she a perfect ten? Have you found Christ again? And tell me you don't have the time To cop to it and vanish in the night Who is she? Because I know that it can't be me Who is she? Because I know that it can't be me You fell away and I know how it all boils down You hesitate, maintain charade And I fall to the bottle, the bottle again We used to tell each other everything And now we're passing ships in night We used to tell each other all the lies (I don't think) And in a fairly civil way Whatever gets you through the night Who is she? Because I know that it can't be me Who is she? Because I know that it can't be me Who is she? 'Cause I know that it can't be me I know that it can't be me I, I know that it can't be me (Who is she?) I know that it can't be me (Who is she?) I know that it can't be

I was trying to reach deep into the recesses of my head for a track that gave me the same sense of freewheeling liberation characterising the section from 2:51, when it finally hit me - 'Take On Me' by A-Ha. When Molly reaches for the sky with those luscious vocals, it sounds almost like Morten Harket belting.

I was jumping up and down to this song, it rips so bad I had to let the energy out, it was the middle of the night, the neighbors below me complained to my landlord. I brought my neighbors pumpkin soup then refused to pay rent that month. I don't live there anymore. Ground floor only.

Archie, Marry Me played over the end credits of the first episode of Wedding Season (Rosa Salazar, yay) prompting me to check out some more Alvvays tunes.
