I had a couple of red sliders a couple of years ago. I got a small one and the big one. One day we found out that the small one escaped through the burrow under the house that was collapsed due to heavy rain. (Which we never notice before.) Now I only have a big one left 😢

When I first got my six year old red foot last summer I had made her a nice long pen out of an old bookcase. She wasn’t having it. Hooked her front legs up on the top of it and hoisted herself right over the wall. Back legs dangling. Twice I heard a thud and went running and once she was on her back. So after that she free roams my apt like she owns it. I love the commentary in this lol

Turtles are persistent creatures, they will try and try until they can get over to the other side by themself. Our Eastern box turtle try repeatedly after flipping onto his back to get over an 8 inch tall red scallop shape brick. 1st time didn't succeed , but 2nd times he was able to climb over the brick and take cover in the garden under the mint. Turtles are persistent, if they don't succeed one day then they will try again another day. They just don't want witnesses!

It’s not that serious. They love to climb and have a purpose and think they’re bigger than they are. His carapace is very strong. He’s not hurt at all. I’ve seen them do some crazy stuff- this is mild. He’s okay. I promise.

wall looks not tall enough even for that height...eventually it will be able to get over it especially since that tort has much much more to grow.. For anyone else: torts have a weird obsession with trying to climb over walls/literally any object they can see over, they will try over and over again....they hate being "caged" could be 1 reason. source: my leopard tort

Yes this is a good note for those completely unaware. However, things you can’t see in this video are more walls, which are much higher, security cameras everywhere, and foot patrol all day long. They definitely aren’t “caged” and have acres to be free- there are many videos for reference.

Now I'm worried. My red foot is too short to climb over the cinder blocks that keep her away from the cat food. She's always so mad when she can't even get her front legs over and starts stomping around the blocks, looking for a way to climb on. She's still small but determined. One day, I'm going to find her like this, I can feel it 😂
