Your marbled fabric is simply beautiful! I’m eager to see what you make with that. 😊 The watercolor floral would look great as some sort of shift-type dress that would show off the fabric design. If I had that fabric, I think a caftan with piping or lace trim would be my pick. Happy stitching!
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Ah thank you so much for your lovely comment! Yes I’m keen to use the marble fabric probably as a shirt dress I think. I’ve had a bit of a fail with the floral I’m afraid! 🫣😂. It’s in my next video due out at the end of this week hopefully

I agree with your suggestion of cargo pants with the watercolour wildflower fabric. It’s gorgeous, as is the marble and creepy merry go round fabric you showed in another video!
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
😂 creepy merry go round, that’s made me laugh, yes it’s definitely on the edge isn’t it?! Thank you. I’m always drawn to slightly odd fabrics, sometimes they work, sometimes not. Definitely still looking at cargo patterns for the flower fabric. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🥰

I also enjoy the whole process of exploring patterns and fabric. It’s like a hobby within a hobby! I’ve been eyeing that McCalls pattern for a while. Now that I see your version I want to get it! 😊

Ah I love that idea about it being a hobby within a hobby!! I can just spend ages pairing them and not always need to sew them up!! 😂. Ah o love wearing my McCalls dresses, you won’t regret getting the pattern 🥰

The floral / abstract fabric would look lovely as an Anthea blouse
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Oh yes that’s a lovely idea and there is also a longer version isn’t there which would work well with leggings…. I definitely have the Anthea on my list of want to makes, so hmmm that could definitely be a contender… 🤔 thank you!!!

I am really enjoying your videos Sarah. I am grateful that you are opening my eyes to different patterns, fabrics, styling ideas etc, that I’m not so familiar with, and I just love you sharing your own personal take on garments. The top you’re wearing is now on my McCalls list. Thanks so much, Susan x

Ah thank you so much! I hope you’ll enjoy making and wearing the mccalls top, it’s lovely now I’ve perfected the construction 😂. Yes I always try and think a bit differently about what I can make, sometimes that’s not a good thing as it ends up with too many thoughts and not enough action!! 😅

Yes to cargo pants

I have made the shirt as the fabric was too thin for cargo pants. Having made it thought I don’t like the shirt and wish I’d tried the pants anyway 😂. Will be sharing in the next video. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😊

Hi Sarah! I know this is some time after you uploaded this video, but I too am a big fan of The Sewing Revival and I’ve recently made two pairs of their fabulous Sidewinder pants - they fit amazingly, for me I just needed to do my standard alteration of most patterns which is to raise the back rise an inch. Also I’ve made two pairs of the Classic Pants and Shorts, which is great for linen or lightweight cotton. Both have back elasticated waists and fit beautifully. Love your videos! Karen x

Ooh thank you for reminding me of this pattern! I’m starting to look again at elasticated narrower trousers and had completely forgotten about this one! 🥰

Hi Sarah, I absolutely love the combination of blouse and trousers! I guess it just depends on if formal wear is what you're after, as it might be quite smart. But lovely! Great advice on checking out linen for use as fabric, I'll look next time. Can't wait to see those trousers made up
@sosewmad Жыл бұрын
What about making the blouse sleeveless, that might break it up?
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Yes I think you’ve nailed it on the head there, it’s probably going to be too formal for my lifestyle 🤔. We will see!! Looking at the sleeveless version for the summer may work but I’m too impatient and want to get it made up for now. For sure though it’s a lovely pattern so I do want to try a version. Thank you!! 😊

Hi Sarah, the abstract floral would look great as the Nino jacket. It could be paired with multiples of your pants ideas! Great video today. I'm a week behind watching due to being a bit on the unwell side, so I have lots of videos to watch today!
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Ah I’m sorry to hear you’ve been unwell, hopefully resting and catching up on lots of videos will do the trick! 😄. I love the idea of the abstract floral as a jacket but I think it might be a bit too lightweight 🤔. I definitely need to get on with making some pants, I keep talking about it, haven’t managed to get further than a toile yet though! 🤦♀️😂

I think the abstract pattern material would look nice as a skirt bottom with a crop top effect in the solid colors
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Hi, many thank for the idea, that’s definitely interesting to mix them up and have a plain top and patterned bottom! The only issue really is that the fabrics may not be suited to being used that way round, ie the patterned cotton is very lightweight and the plain is probably more suited to a bottom half garment! I’ve already made the top into a shirt and am not sure about it at all, I’m trying to wear it to get used to it!! Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and commenting! 😊

I wondered about a shacket or kimono style jacket for your abstract floral as you could break up the look of the two items together with a plain top underneath.
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Yes someone else mentioned a similar idea thank you. It’s a bit lightweight for a shacket, but a shirt would work well I think as you say with a plain top underneath. 🤔. A kimono would work, but as the fabric is so light it may feel a bit dressing gown robe I think (which wouldn’t be a bad thing for sashaying round the house in though! 😂). Thank you. 😊

When I saw the abstract floral print next to the plain fabric, the first thing I thought was the Heather Blazer. I will have to check out Sewing Revival patterns, I love that top pattern.
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Ah yes that fabric colour combination would be lovely as a Heather blazer, but the mocha bengaline is too stretchy I think… I have another fabric which I’m planning to make the Heather blazer with this Spring. Yes I’m sure you’ll find lots to make on the sewing revival website!! Thanks. 😊

I was thinking that the abstract floral would look nice as a summer dress with a high/low hem so you see the full design of the print. Or a skirt of some sort if you thought it was too much of a print.
@sewsarahstyle Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment. I have made it up in a high low hem shirt with a gathered collar which I’m not happy with!! 🫣😂. I’m going to share it in my next video. It definitely would have been better saved for a summer dress. I do like the hem though! Thanks.
