I would say making sure to follow parking signs and restrictions, even if you think you can get away with breaking them, whether it is timings or vehicle type/size stuff. And just generally not parking anywhere silly like on narrow roads or blocking people’s driveways etc
@TheSway82Күн бұрын
I live near Arundel, and frankly that ban has been a long time coming. That road, whilst reasonably quiet, is the core parking for the town. The car park (which has public toilets the long term roadside occupants seem to not be bothered making use of) often fills - which means a long walk past what were frankly encampments to get into town. Your advice is all sound, and what we adopt.

I know they’ve been trying to remove overnight parking there for a very long time! It’s a real shame people haven’t respected it properly, it’s a lovely place and I totally get why people are fed up!

we get this all the time in castleton at the weekend there can be 100plus vans here, most good van people but you get the few that we can do without, human waste all over, bottles, caravans turning up for weeks double parking on the and worst open fires BBQs which is againest the law no open fires anywhere except campsites, they leave huge burn marks its not fair on the people that live in the pretty places there is a large fine for having open fires

We’ve always managed to find a campsite when needed! Just small ones we find not necessarily belonging to the big clubs. We also use toilets in supermarkets etc

Just found you guys, really enjoyed this vlog! Don't subscribe to many people but have just subscribed to you! Think you covered all the major points there and thanks for not making us feel like hypocrites - as we have a few spots we like to stay that we don't openly share, feel a bit mean but don't want the locations to be ruined by those that don't take as much care as they should. (We have been known to go round a site with doggy bag on hand and a carrier bag picking up the butt ends and rubbish that was already there, just so we don't get the blame! Only tip we can add is for those places that allow us kindly to stay for free (and there have been many over our 12 years part time travelling) such as pubs/garden centres/spare land - we carry a small pack of thank you cards, not expensive to purchase, and make sure we leave one for the owners to say thank you for them letting us stay. I find this goes a long way and often gets you remembered & warmly welcomed the next time you stay! Sorry for the essay lol, looking forward to watching more of your content! Best wishes Andrea Kev Cora the Dog and Dusty the campervan! :-) x

It all comes down to being considerate & putting ones self into the shoes of those around, be they residents, farmers or other van lifers. I really try to not put myself in someone's face. I only holiday in my van. I go by the park up late, & move early rule. I often literally wake up in one place, & drive a short way before stopping again for breakfast. Becoming a "fixture" is one of the biggest issues so keep moving is one of my rules. This particular street looks like it's an overspill car park for the town which a lot of people probably use to avoid driving into the town so parking there for more than a few hours would get backs up. I always have a bike with me which is great to enable me to park well out of a town etc. Saves a mint of money on parking charges, reduces congestion & pollution, & a lot of urban driving miles.

So excited that you uploaded! We don't do the van/camper life and everything you mentioned is such common sense. It's sad and frustrating that people can ruin it for the other respectful people out there. Did school start yet there again? My youngest started up HS again this past Thursday. Have a great day/night everyone and sending much positivity from freezing Minnesota. It feels like -16 Fahrenheit at 9:00am 😮.

i saw an comment on reddit that said that in "UK people see vanlifers as homeless people on way or thee other" and that's why vanlifers are kind of looked down upon in social situations (no-one wants to admit that they live in a van, don't mention it at work etc.). Do people really look down upon others like that just because they don't live in traditional housing?
@AlwaysAwayКүн бұрын
Yeah definitely, it’s not really accepted in the mainstream, although a lot more people are starting to do it now, especially the older generation now! But there’s a lot of people that look down on it and hate it!

It can be tough! We have a built in heating system to our van and it’s not noisy, you can get diesel heaters for inside too, plus we have lots of blankets for night time, but our heater works great. And we use public bins when we find them and make sure we don’t have a big build up of rubbish, but if we do we use bins at a campsite 😊

Thanks for making the video, I hope that there is some way to get through to the van folks out there who ruin things for everyone else.

Unfortunately in life it seems that a very small number of inconsiderate people cause nearly all the problems, upsetting a small number “Karens” with nothing better to do than complain to local councils whose sole purpose it seems is to make life more unpleasant and expensive for everyone - It’s a chain reaction of stupidity! On the Facebook groups you mentioned are miscreants ever named and shamed? Very informative video! I shall have to work very hard to get the image of Dom on the toilet out of my head! ❤👍

@lucretiaonutubeКүн бұрын
@AlwaysAway I didn't mean to sound blunt but the traveller community are pilloried and ostracised by society/police but they are also living a nomadic life and have done for hundreds of years. Yes, some traveller groups create trouble and disorder but not all. I don't see that there is a difference ... I have been following youtubers for years all over the world who have chosen to live out of a van ... it's a reflection of the rigid societal structures imposed on us. I wish I had the fortitude and energy (I'm 72) to do this ...
@AlwaysAwayКүн бұрын
The traveller community definitely are ostracised and face a lot more prejudice, but there are a lot of overlapping values - I agree with you! Society is so restrictive and there’s such a mental and financial burden, living in a van is a great way to escape that and connect with the outdoors, and get away from over consumption!
