Excellent video. I appreciate the concise yet in-depth information. I never knew wire is graded according to the ratio of insulation to metal.

Thank you very much that explains it so far the best. Now could you please call my scrap yard and repeat everything in Spanish and convince them that you're right! LOL

Do you know how many copper wire grading videos I’ve watched & I was still confused! You have the most simple clear explanation, now I know exactly what’s #1 & #2 thanks

Great video, very informative. Your defenitions of wire and copper differs from ours. The scrapyard takes any insulated wire WITHOUT the connectors as "scrapwire". Stripped wire, any kind of copper, we get payed the same as long as it's copper. By the way, I live in northern Sweden.

If I take all the insulation off the 70% copper wire,is it thick enough to be bare bright or is it #1 copper?

MCM is a measurement. It could be 250 MCM or 500 MCM, but we (in my 10 yr experience) would call it "500" rather than "MCM" if anything other than just "the wire".

We had a bunch of wire once that I never seen before. It was insulated then wrapped in what we thought was brass and was really sticky like everything was coated in a glue. Then finally the braided copper. Never seen anything like it after that.

Almost forgot, did the math and it comes to about $2/lbs,, give or take a few cents for copper. The scrapyard will still take wire with the connectors still there at a lower price. Scrapwire about $0,85/lbs.

Is 40% insulated wire 40% copper or 40% insulation?

If you do burn your wire look up pyrolysis on KZbin. There is ways to burn plastic safer at at home. Still not recommended but you basically cook the wire and burn the fumes off. Seems to work because there is less smoke and smell...

How are you going to discourage people from burning wire if you buy it from them as #1? There should be a law
