As a long time Christian, one of the things that really burns me about many MLMs is how they use “Christian speak” to try and legitimize their stuff. There is nothing remotely Christian about how they do things imo.

I agree, its just like how some of those Mega Churches in the States pull off the same thing getting their congregation to donate huge a amounts of money just to have the Pastors live in luxury with mansions and private jets. The money is not doing towards helping the poor and needy.

I was an evangelical Christian when I got in Amway and I 100% agree. I think there is a special judgment coming to these people. It's spiritual abuse that they inflict. scripture itself has some things to say about people who are crooked and use jesus name to be crooked...

A former roommate invited me to his place for a “business opportunity”. He talked a lot and then gave me cassette tape to listen to and that it was important that he got it back. (Yes a cassette, that long ago). I listened on my drive home. The first minute was a cheering crowd and then someone speaking through a mic to a large crowd. Why would people get this revved up over toothpaste? I instantly got chills from this cult vibe and threw the cassette out the window of my car on the way home. Never spoke to that guy again. He was no friend. It was Amway.

Faith manipulation is especially scummy. Not to put too fine a point on it, but people of strong faith are statistically less likely to question something that appeals to them. That makes them more vulnerable to manipulation. I shouldn't need to say this , but that's not an insult. It's what the data bears out. They're not any better or worse than anyone else. They deserve the same respect as every human being. Obviously.

I have just watched 6 or 7 of your videos on The economic and social folly of MLMs. I watched them in tears, because : Years ago my wife became involved in Monavie. And everything you're saying was true of that MLM tactics, economics, mindset, etc..... Despite many long debates on the very rationale you're putting forth, it didn't work to dissuade her. And as you've noticed : Nor is your logical points working to dissuade "the faithful" either. Here's why : It's because the decision isn't coming from their HEAD (intellect, rationale, logic, etc.....). The decision is coming from their HEART (emotion, feeling, etc....). I'm not faulting the MLM'rs (and my wife) from this tendency. Because WE ALL tend to think with our hearts, don't we ? But don't worry that you're having a hard time dissuading the hard-core MLM proponents with your video material. Because trust me : It is helping those who are "sitting on the fence" . To not be lulled in. You are doing a good job at showing the fence sitters to NOT become the next blinded person. So : Thank you, thank you, thank you, for all your hard work !!

I LOVE your content, and genuinely am deeply touched by what you're doing. I apologize for sometimes being too outrageous in the comment section, maybe! See you tonight, Marco. Wagwan!!!!! Btw, listening to this interview reminded me of a disaster that happened to me 8 yrs ago. I got scammed by a halfway house, for addiction recovery. Cash payment, no insurance, was fine, and across the country. This place advertised as one thing, and absolutely brutalizes and chews and spits out its residents, mostly young and vulnerable women who don't have cash or phones on them bc they just came from rehab. The brutality of the bootcamp style accomodations, and then leaving women homeless bums on the street shaking, w/ no way to get home is horrific. They're called Canyon Crossings in Arizona, and are harming women everyday, to this day, via their scam.

Speaking as a researcher and academic working the field(s) (interdisciplinary field) that is emerging right now, as you may know, called Cultic Studies (cf. The International Journal of Coercion, Abuse, and Manipulation), your channel is really at the top for me (a few others as well). Your approach matches that field's approach, encouraging an almost "apolitical" approach, i.e. understanding that people are rarely very "aware" of what they're doing and why. MLMs are especially good with the "boom-bust" cycle of making people freak out and get excited (mostly about "being rich") and then pulling the rug out and blaming the victims etc. -- if you ever want any input or to collaborate re: some projects and what not, I am very interested in pursuing some professional research to help establish a better and more well-rounded approach to these matters. Cheers and well done!

Omg, the rewriting your goals really hits home for me. I was in Cutco for a few years, and I remember I was going on a trip abroad through my school. I told my upline I was doing that and he asked me why I was going in the most condescending way, like he couldn't fathom the thought of me traveling and learning about new things and having new experiences. Fast forward to now, I just got back from a trip where I had one of the most fun Halloweens of my life. I'm so happy I'm out now. MLMs love to sell you on the trips, but it costs way less money and gives you way more freedom to just book the trip yourself.

Pretty funny stuff. I was in WWG for a bit, overall was in the hole about $2k after 2 years of trying the Amway thing. Luckily I realized the income and time investment werent what I was originally sold and got out of it. The guy who recruited me (a coworker) is also no longer part of the org. One caveat to the overall bad experience, part of WWG's sell is developing genuinely good habits. Self improvement, becoming more sociable, reading more, all things ended up helping me advance in my actual job. It sucks to feel conned out of a few thousand dollars, but I definitely didnt come out of it with nothing.

Great vid Marco, have to clarify something on the Christianity talk. Religion shouldnt be something based solely on faith. Christianity is a religion founded in testimony and history. Sure some faith is helpful when considering the veracity of the gospels, but there is evidence to assist there too (martyrdom, lack of motives, no conflicting accounts). In that way it is markedly different from Judaism or Islam. Any Christian or former Christian who says they “just have faith” hasnt investigated the facts behind the claim. In that way it is different from the cult of MLM

Testimonies - you have to have FAITH that this person wasn’t just delusional and / or hallucinating. You have to have FAITH that whatever happened against the odds was a divine miracle and not just a fortunate coincidence or something that occurred naturally. You have to have FAITH that a supernatural entity which you yourself have never seen or heard actually intervened. The list goes on. History - the reliable historical records we have regarding Jesus’ life provide very minimal information. It essentially boils down to his execution and death. Everything else is hearsay, fantastical stories, and speculation. The Bible, the foundation of Christianity, is an incredibly fallible piece of text based on unreliable sources which means you must disable your logical compass and proceed with blind FAITH in the veracity of what is written there. It’s all based on faith in the impossible, illogical, and fantastical just like any other mythology or cult. Yours isn’t special. That’s what makes it hard to leave once you’re on the inside. Whether it’s a religion or an MLM, you all think that it’s the best one, the right one, because (coincidentally!) it’s the one you happen to be in.

Also, there is no point in being someone’s Amway customer. How does that even work? Do I markup the price on already expensive products so that I can make a profit? Is that a fair way to treat friends and family? Do I just keep the kickback to myself after my customers make a bulk order? If they really love the products, what’s gonna stop them from leaving me and making their own Amway account to save more money? I see why IBOs resort to selling tools, it’s because the only way to make money is to recruit, which isn’t even all that viable. So families are broken and people are socioeconomically destroyed all for this?

I literally just got into Amway, through a random guy that was a customer. Just in the first week ive been to a meeting and invited to a super meeting. Been super skeptical, doing research. First thing I told my gf when I told her about it was "sounds like a pyramid mlm buuuut.." And the diamond member during the meeting said "some people might toss the word "pyramid" out.." and drew a whole diagram of how they AREN'T a pyramid.. by USING a pyramid 😂 They said "this is the opposite! Ask your 9-5 boss!" 😅😂

I can say, they are VERY persuasive BECAUSE how successful these diamond members are. What they slip in there is that THEY have been doing this for 30+ years. They could market and get people hooked early on when the process was cheap. Now they're so many layers deep in the pyramid, making platinum is next to impossible.

Have a meeting with my "sponsor" in 12 hours about "education material" and "what I got from the 2 videos he sent" What questions do I ask to gauge his awareness

It also says in their terms of service for an IBO, sponsor.. etc... multiple ways it's an investment without being an investment, as well as they "must be truthful" in these meetings. They are supposed to show the "POSSIBLE" NOT what they do or anyone CAN make. Just "possible" Hence the suits in small house meetings with "diamonds/platinums"

So I’ll tell you the inside story. My cousin was the early backer of Amway start up and partner of Rich De Voss. My cousin was the son of a Swedish millionaire and partner of Howard Hughes. Unfortunately he was sucked into the Baptist church leadership and ended up backing the construction of the Crystal Cathedral in Anaheim. They started this TV evangelism but the first members of the church were all the rich backers of this church. My cousins brother was a Baptist minister and my aunt and uncle poured money into Billy Graham. One day my cousin showed up at our house with the first Amway shoe Polish kit and tried to recruit my father. My father always thought my cousins were a couple of jerks, so he threw him out of the house- and take your shoe Polish with you. After that we barely saw them. They did show up at family reunions driving a Cadillac acting posh. None of the family took them serious. We laughed at them. Years later my cousin parted ways with them and told me they flew around in private jets- but it was all sales talk- my cousin never changed. He was always into pyramid schemes. He never had a legitimate job. He worked in the Crystal cathedral prayer tower but. It praying. He chatted with unhappy women and started dating them. Eventually the church fell apart and they sold it to the Catholic Diocese. The members however moved to Fpuntain Hills Arizona- ithe town is full of these con artists - anyway everything you are saying is just Amway mum I jumbo - to confuse you and sucker you. When you figure it out and leave- they just sucker somebody else-

So many heinous things are done in the name of "religion" The problem with religion is that everyone entrenched in one believes their way is THE way and imposes that or attempts to impose it on others. All the while not even caring the damaging their actions are causing.

There's a lot of faith manipulation. I've had adverts for scams marketed toward Muslims (I'm not religious, so they must just be spamming the ads)

It's not a scam if you have legitimate products to sell. I used to sell products B2B. I sold knockoff china made drills. I walked in the industrial area & spoke to all the shipping and receiving. I sold them out.. I then graduated to ladies lotions. I went to the Exotic Tan😂. They bought everything 🎉. They then had me selling ATM's & I sold like 60 to one guy with a strip mall. I sold weed after that. But currently I don't like to sell because I don't like to push my agenda onto others. I am currently working towards helping as a mentor to help low income. Ireally want my own non profit organization so that I can provide growth to the community (:❤

I’m really not trying to be mean when I ask had you never heard of Amway before? Maybe it depends on where you live? I thought most people related the word Amway with scam by the time they were in high school.

So Amway is okay with their followers being negative about every other job opportunity in their life, just not negative about Amway. That’s so hypocritical.

About fake accounts, maybe not all companies do the same, because my company did cancel a womans account because the company find out that the woman had lots and lots of fake accounts, they company did cancel her account and all the accounts under her. I can't even have my bank card on 2 accounts, they rejected the card right away if i tried to use it for my friend. Soo not all companies are the same, if the companies is out to just earn the money, they never would cancel an account with hundreds accounts below this person if it was just for the money
