I thought in the military we didn’t see race. How do you feel about the media hyping the fact that he was African-American?

@@Outdoorsguy1212 That's so idiotic to think you can live in this world and just not see race. OF COURSE they should be hyping it up, this is major for all black soldiers who've never thought they could be commended the same.

In a combat situation there's no race, religion or who you prefer to love. This great hero lived the army values to the point where he knowingly gave up his life for his soldiers. This is a true American hero. May you rest in peace.

His name came up when Villanueva from the Steelers put his name on his helmet. This guys joins a long list of black patriots who gave their life in conflicts for USA

What can I say? Men like Sfc. Cashe are true American heroes that love their country, but loved his soldiers more

The people who wrote this title obviously never served. Has nothing to do with his color. It's disrespectful.

Of course it has to do with color when none of the post Vietnam recipients were black. Were there no black soldiers who demonstrated heroism worthy of getting it? You think just because the higher ups in the army wear a uniform they no longer see color? The army's own investigation showed discrimination involved in awarding of commendations. There were no black recipients from WW1 until two were awarded, 73 and 85 years after their deaths. There were no black recipients from WW2 until over half a century after. And there were none for actions since the 60s until this.
