Tip: You can always ‘contour’, slim or add dimension to your face with bronzer. That was a game changer for me (I too have a full fleshy face with delicate features, and I find that it helps make my facial features pop and makes me look less puffy). The thing is, you need to use a sheer bronzer that has a slight sheen to it, and most importantly, make sure it suits your skintone and isn’t too dark (or it will look like dirt). Apply in rounded motion, follow the natural shape of your cheeks and jawline. Stay away from matte bronzers unless you’re going to pair blush and highlighter with it.

I’m a TR but same. I remember trying to do the heavy bushy Cara Delevigne brows, dark smoky eye and heavy contouring years ago and it looked terrible on me. It all looked way too much for my face which did not make sense to me at the time. Obviously I know now that all those makeup trends are meant more for people with stronger bone structure like Naturals. A few years later, I ended up trying to do Marilyn Monroe inspired makeup on me because I wanted to try something different and I was surprised at how well it flattered my face. Ever since then I have adopted the softer, delicate approach of her makeup. I guess because I’m a TR I could make my makeup a bit darker (?) or sharper but personally my face shape is more rounded/diamond shaped and the skin is very soft so angles don’t work well on me.

i'm a romantic with almost all the features (petite, hourglass figure, delicate facial structure, full lips, etc.) and I have very pale and thin skin. I could not understand why matte colors and heavy makeup were impossible on me! Now I do! And I dye my eyebrows a little as well to soften my face. I'm glad about what you said on the topic. I wonder though : is it typical of romantics than I can bulk up very easily (arms, shoulders, abs) ?
@Mariana-xo5pp5 жыл бұрын
hello! I'm guessing it's mostly genetics that play a part on that but naturals for example give the impression of building muscles more easily, their body is more on the athletic side. I suppose with romantics we are prone to fleshiness but that doesn't mean we don't have muscles, we just look more delicate regardless of them. however, madonna for ex. is a romantic but she worked out a lot so now she has muscular arms and legs so I'd say it has more to do with your lifestyle and the type of exercises you do

aly you're such a blessing! you've helped so much in finding my own individual style. if you do natural type it'd be so so helpful if you could show us how to balance certain features (small eyes, big nose etc..) and how to look more symmetrical and less like a drag queen bc my make up always makes me look like one ))): much love xxx
@Marina_75 жыл бұрын
The small eyes and big nose combo are a true struggle 😭 For the drag queen stuff, maybe use softer colors or apply only a bit and blend a whole lot? Also it may be the lipstick's fault, if you tried a bold one maybe try a softer rosy one instead. Personally red lipstick makes me look like an old hag 😂 Good luck with makeup friend, God knows we need it
@fini52945 жыл бұрын
As a soft natural I try to keep it in the right balance between bold and blended. The drag-queen effect comes also from naturals looking best with subtle makeup Because it tends to be a lot more noticable on naturals for some reason. So when we wear a lot of it, it looks kinda "painted on " Here's how I do my makeup I never ever ever do bold lips and bold lashes together. If i go for a strong lip colour, i only put mascara on the end of my lashes and do a nude eyeshadow if at all. I've also given up on liquid eyeliner, those sharp lines just don't work on me. If I use any eyeliner it's just dots between the lashes. Instead of foundation I use bbcream and highlighter for a softer look. Because there is so much blending involved I think naturals are the best to rock an ombré lip. Though i put a lighter colour on my lip first, then put a darker in the inside and blend it until it's subtle. I only use nude eyeshadow and i don't use more than one colour (black is a colour) plus nude in my whole look. I don't worry about eyebrows a lot - sometimes I trim them but I think a lot of naturals can wear the untrimmed look. If they're naturally thin, use a powder that's the colour of your roots. Hope you'll find this helpful!
@inesm87785 жыл бұрын
I came to the comment section asking for the same! I can relate to your struggles (small eyes and big nose + not being able to wear a lot of makeup without looking clownish). I can't seem to make eyeshadows work for me at all, all I can do is concealer and eyeliner. +Blush if I'm going out.
@Marina_75 жыл бұрын
I recently found out I'm a soft natural as well! I can't wait for Aly to post the tutorial for naturals I also do my makeup in a subtle manner, I don't know if it helps but I do it like this: - concealer where needed, bb cream or a bit of light foundation - I usually do very little to nothing to my eyebrows, I just pluck a little sometimes - I use around 3 eyeshadow colors because I like having fun with them but they are soft and I blend a lot to the point where they are barely visible - putting some light color eyeshadow on your inner corners can also brighten the eyes a bit - for eyeliner, I either apply a very thin delicate line of liquid liner or use a bit of darker eyeshadow, I found that creating any kind of small flick at the outer corner elongates my eyes and helps define them, just keep it light, delicate or almost feathery if you're using eyeshadow - I also sometimes put on a bit of rosy blush, again very softly - for lipstick I found that applying some normal kinda creamy rosy lipstick with the pad of my finger adds some color while also looking soft and blended, it's also really easy to put on Basically for anything I do, I do it softly, applying little by little while blending, no harsh edges. If all else fails, concealer, mascara and lipbalm, or just going barefaced is the way to go :)))

Especially now that I’m REALLY old, I still have that younger looking face, so I just moisture well, light foundation, soft blush, slight sheen on cheekbone and top of lip, lip pencil in a medium rose, and gloss or for evening a soft pink lipstick with rose lip pencil .... everything soft and blended, I pass for 45-50! I haven’t decided whether I am Romantic/Soft Natural/Soft Classic, but I’m on the very Yin end of the spectrum. I’m older, and I find less is best in makeup. Lip color, a little (and I mean a little) blush are often enough, or maybe add one coat of mascara to top lashes as well. I look heavy and tired with eye makeup. A slight touch of shimmer is all I need. Anything more is too heavy.
