@kinghijinx58922 жыл бұрын
This where things start getting serious. Serious And very sad. No joke, I cry everytime Eda sacrafices herself to save Luz. Especially the "thank you for being in my life" line. Also the Eda vs Lillith is an awesome visual spectacle and is one of the best action scenes in the show. For the question, I don't know who I really thought might have cursed Eda, but I dont think it was Lillith. I do remember being supprised at that reveal.

I think the photo of young Lilith in round glasses from the previous episode provided a big hint that Lilith cursed Eda, but the line delivery in this episode is just so unexpected and hits so hard. Also, Luz's return to the Owl House post fight really takes on another layer when, as another reactor pointed out, the fight was in the evening, and Luz arrives home as Hooty's waking up, meaning she walked home all night, by herself, right after losing Eda. Also also, it's amazing to see your reaction to Lilith during the fight! I think it really captures how we all felt as we went from hoping Eda and Lily could patch up their relationship to finding Lilith's actions irredeemable. Also also also, is that Gee Gee?! I didn't realize he appeared so soon!

The reveal really took me by surprise, I think because the visuals only make sense in hind-sight. I think that's the sign of a well-crafted surprise reveal - not that there are no hints, but that the hints are unclear enough that they only make sense when you know what they are building towards. That's both easier and harder in animation - easier because you can bury the lead more, but harder because it's challenging not to cheat and make a reveal impossible to guess.

In retrospect I think I should have seen it coming that Lilith was the source of the curse, nonetheless I was fully blindsided. Also, you're right- on rewatching the biggest thing that stands out to me, even more than the epic animation of the Lilith/Eda fight, is how tight the writing is. When you reflect on it, Dana packed a very impressive amount of storytelling into one standard length episode.
@CommandConfirmed2 жыл бұрын
I did not expect it one bit. But looking back it made sense because the show was well written. The way Lilith was worried about the curse and genuinely wanted to remove it points to her guilt about cursing her to begin with.

I had an assumption that Lilith was the one who cursed Eda, there was some dialogue between them that made her look so guilty now that I look back at old episodes like “Covention”. Another big point was that the one who cursed Eda, I just assumed had to be close to her already and Eda didn’t have a sister with such a important antagonistic role for nothing. Other than that, I love your work! Keep doing amazing! Have a great day, night, year whicheva!

I really enjoyed this reaction. I agree that the animation, writing and direction is very well done in this series and it is very obvious in this episode. We already got some great fragments in earlier episodes, from the animation of the first time Luz did magic or the first fight between Eda and Lilith but this episode hits so much harder because it builds on previous chapters. We have know of Eda's curse from a long time and we also knew that it was getting worst. And while we were only introduced to him, the Emperor's precense was felt all the way from the introduction of covens. I wonder if it was obvious Emperor Belos sort of ate a palisman or if the giant heart sort of overshadowed that.

And let's just say, Hooty and Lilith have a.....complicated relationship. I remember after this episode how almost everyone wanted to cancel Lilith. And I did too (I watched the finale in one sitting, but I needed a moment after this to cry and recover, and I HATED her). I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this show is spectacular. Lilith using Luz as bait, actually putting her life in danger was more unforgivable than the curse itself (and keeping it a secret for 20 years). Using a threat against a child to take down the mentor/mother figure... Sorry, to me that soul is so damaged that I just cant believe she is redeemable... but hey, this is Disney, right? The sisters will sing a song, do a soul-gaze and everything will be forgiven (Spizzzt - thats me spitting my disgust. Sorry, sorry!). Lets see how Dana gets past this!

Even though I felt like the show was tailor-made for you, I sort of feel you on the "I like the characters, and this is fun, but there has to be more to this show, right?" bit for most of season 1. Maybe it could've used more/stronger hints of the over-arching story, maybe an appearance from Belos. That said... That Belos reveal in the throne room... The imagery of that scene was nuts, right? lol I'm glad the over-arching narrative is revealing itself more now. Typical super-power bad guy at the top kind of thing, but Belos' character and the lore presented just adds so many layers of narrative mystery and intrigue to me. You can tell there's so much more beneath the surface in the story to explore. Such a great penultimate episode. :)
