Its amazing how grass and plants, then insects, find their way miles offshore. I presume seeds are carried on the wind, or by birds mainly. Some may get washed up, though it looks pretty sheer. Life on earth is quite amazing in its abundance, diversity and determination to exist. Great film.

If they're only found on Ball Island, who else is threatening them besides these scientists taking them back to be displayed in a zoo? Lol...

Do you have absolute proof that taking more insects off the island to add to the existing cultures increases genetic diversity? Has any (epi)genetic differences between individuals been proven?

Good question Felix! I'd like to know that too. In the meantime the only current information about Balls pyramid seems to be all media releases and slick drone shots of "extreme citizen science" in action.

Probably not proven, but it can't do any harm to take another to try. Seeing as the original two taken from the island have produced thousands of progeny, the tiny size of the initial population (24) is probably more due to resource partitioning of the single bush they were discovered on than poor reproduction.

more to the point- Why would you want to? Even if practcal, you'd have to be extremely rich.. ... and happy to live, at great expense, like a self-sufficient hermit. @@mikalcarney7301 Politics are the world today. In every aspect of life, in every country. The world has polarized around opinion and false information. Not sure where you're from but, in the USA, I agree with Douglas H. We have a serious Democrat problem here. They have become our country's rats. And they prey on the dumbest, least educated citizens to maintain power. You see, Logic and Liberalism do not coincide in any way shape or form. I would love to see our Democrat Party decimated to extinction. Politics used to be 2 sides with a different solution to problems. Democrats have turned it into hate, lies, TDS, and ridiculousness. Funny thing is, your comment on no reason to bring up politics is actually political. You must be a Liberal. You can voice your opinion but, no one else can. Wise up fool...

If a species' extinction has nothing to do with the actions of humans, then you should not try to save them. Disgraceful - how dare you meddle with the Universe in such a way.
