For you armchair mechanics, the reason the low side is almost identical to the high side is because the seals in the compressor that would typically isolate the suction and discharge sides, are blown, the compressor is physically spinning, but it is not making any COMPRESSION. sincerely, A7 certified.

the compressor separates the high side from the low side if pressures are equal (or close) compressor is bad.

Maybe a expansion valve or blowed out orfice tube. I'd pull those and check for debris. Compressor is 3rd in line. Verify power to clutch and that it's turning, 2nd Verify point of restriction then pressure builder

I'd say check orifice to see if it's still there. Look for blockages at evaporator and condenser coils

The low side pressure was high on my Eclipse but the high side was about right and it ended up being the expansion valve.

I would check if the blend door actuators are working and I’d also see if the line is cold. If the line is cool but the air coming out the vent is warm it’s likely the expansion valve

Did you already rule out a stuck blend door or bad HVAC control panel? I know the AC button was on but is it actually sending a signal to the blend door? Doubt it's cable operated.

With the a/c clutch engaged pressures should be more around 30 on the low side and 180 on the high side. Both sides should not match. The AC system isn't currently making any cold air so the blend door would not change anything currently.

The AC blender or the HVAC controller Have nothing to do with the pressures on either side of a compressor. If the compressor is on it's on. It's obvious that the compressor does not have a good enough seal to pump freon adequately. If the compressor was off it would be obvious by looking at it but also the pressures would be equalized across the high and low side. Regardless of where you're blind doors are positioned it has no effect on AC pressure.

The low side is so high, because he has both the high side tap and low side tap on the manifold both open, so he is bypassing the compressor with his manifold which looks like the compressor is not pumping. Just saying....

You failed to explain if you pulled vacuum on the system and tested for leaks. EG; injecting UV dye with the PAG oil and inspecting with a UV lamp. If my compressor was engaging, I’d want to know that you searched for leaks before recommending a compressor replacement. It seems more likely to be an issue with the condenser imo

Im not so sure. A stuck open expansion valve could cause a similar condition.

​@chevy383jt if an expansion valve is stuck open the refrigerant doesn't fully evaporate which would cause a high low side pressure. The high side would be more free flowing into the evaporater which would drop the pressure slightly.

40 is where you wanna be on the low side. Overcharged for sure. Lower it and it’ll blow cold

It's set to the correct amount of freon. Not overcharged at the moment.

Could be a blown fuse to the compressor. Even though the ac unit is spining correctly even if you turn it on it wont know its time to blow cold. How do you know you might asked. It happened to me.
