Am I Fortunate to Hike the AT?

My name is “Wingit” and I am attempting an Appalachian Trail 2024 Thru Hike - without much of a plan, in fact, I am Winging it along the way. Here is another day I am grateful to share with everyone.
Today I hiked my way out of Shenandoah National Park, capping off a 16.5 mile day. Still extremely hot outside and still no rain. I made it to a tent spot which was actually an open field with zero trees to hang my hammock. Because of this, I had to push further north where I found two trees directly along the AT.
On today’s hike I discuss words being empty, such as the phrase “I am fortunate, or lucky, or blessed to be on this journey”. I see life so much differently than most and I don’t see it the same way as most. I could use those words to describe myself before the trail or wherever I am at. It’s all a matter of perspective and perception. I could be fortunate with my grandkids or on a job site somewhere and everyone else is fortunate as well. We all have the capability to feel fortunate. We’re all lucky and we’re all blessed; many just lack the ability (or awareness) to recognize it in ourselves.
Please let me know your thoughts and if you haven’t joined us on this journey, please subscribe and join us as we all trek the road together.
DONATIONS - My needs are met so
ANY & ALL donations will be utilized to help less fortunate hikers. Many are hiking with minimal food & substandard gear, infrequent opportunities to get out of inclement weather, do laundry, or acquire a bunk at a local hostile. Many survive by donated gear from hiker boxes to experience the magic of the Appalachian Trail.
I believe the gift is in the give and utilize every opportunity to be of service to others; on the trail and off. I do what I can, any additional contributions will further validate the AT Mantra “The Trail Provides.”
Love & Peace,
“Wingit”

The trail is 100% a microcosm of life. You don’t unplug from life on the trail, you get to see life in its purest form. Beautiful message today. ❤️🕓

We are all fortunate each day when we wake up. Difference is you chose to get out there to spread your message, which is needed by many. Thank you for sharing your heart and journey. You are a joy to watch.

Everywhere you go, there you are, and that's where the grass is the greenest.

Did I ever tell you how much I love your out look on life? I will tell you again it's great. For years, I've been watching you guys hike the AT thinking this is what I need to do to give my life meaning, but the problem is I lack time and money , my job won't let me take that much time off and I don't want to quit this close to retirement and my wife can't stand to be alone for that length of time plus I'm cheep and I forget things and sometimes get lost especially when I'm dehydrated I get stubborn and push myself . But now I realize l don't need to. My life already has meaning just the way it is. I have a wife who loves me and has put up with me for 24 years and a good job I have for 35 years a house, a car , life is good, THANK YOU . 👍✌️🌈 Maybe someday we will meet. I'm only 20 minutes away from the AT, and I occasionally hike there when I find the time. From Boiling springs to Darlington, shelter is where I hike .

I 100% agree with you. Everyone has their own path and let’s be happy for people that live their own dreams without judgement. Happiness & truth is internal. Happy Trails! I’m enjoying your journey! 🥾🥾🥾

THE ONLY THINGS YOU HAVE THAT I ENVY PER SE IS YOUR BACKPACKING/TRAIL EQUIPMENT. THE FOOD IS NO BIG DEAL CAUSE I HAVE TO BUY FOOD AT HOME SO THE COST OF THE FOOD ON THE TRAIL MINUS THE NORMAL COST AT HOME IS THE ACTUAL HIKING FOOD COST. I CAN FIND TIME TO WALK AND HIKE
What’s next? Weeping on the Appalachian Trail
