I live in Louisiana and we have a million mosquitoes too. My yard person said NO STILL WATER, so like your guy said it’s a mosquito haven. Mosquitoes harbor in lots of foliage, a pond/stream and pool. Plus the spraying kills other insects, some of those same insects may be there to help kill mosquitoes such as: dragon flies, crane flies Birds, frogs, tadpoles, fish, toads, salamanders, spiders, and many types of insects all play vital roles in keeping the mosquito population at bay. Some creatures, like the small brown bat, can catch up to 600 mosquitoes in just one hour.

When we moved to a house that had mosquitos in the backyard, I planted lemon-scented pelargoniums, which basically is Citronella oil. The mosquitos disappeared! Also, I mix a 1-2 drops of organic geranium oil with a neutral carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, to prevent any mosquito bites on my skin.

Is that fellow saying the misting system will also kill bees and other pollinators? Not good. 😢 How about you get that pond going again and add a tiny solar fountain to get the water moving. There are also mosquito pucks you can put in standing water and kills mosquito larvae.

No, please, get rid of the toxic mosquito spray. Plant a ton of lemongrass, it will drive them away. If you're keeping the pond, put mosquito fish in it.

I"m in the midwest, and we have TONS of mosquitoes. A few years ago I discovered that having about 10 - 12 basil plants scattered around (many in pots) works to keep the mosquitoes away! I think any plant that exudes a strong spicy scent would work.

Sadly, I don’t think she’s the type of person who cares much about a more natural approach to the mosquito issue. I didn’t even know that mosquito misting was a thing. Doesn’t smog have the same effect? 😂Maybe she should’ve stayed in San Diego…

I live in a city which has a separate landing strip at the airport for mosquitoes 😅. Have you tried mosquito dunks? They are little discs you put in standing water to kill mosquito larvae and each 1 lasts a month. Only kills the mosquito larvae ... not other beautiful insects like butterflies. I hope your renovation of the water damaged areas has water shut off valves. I was taught to always shut off water to your house when away so you don't get water damage.

Please give some assurance that the ingredients in the mosquito mister spray are safe for good insects. If it contains pyrethrins and permethrin, it may kill beneficial insects such as honeybees, ladybugs, butterflies, and other non-target species.

Very excited about the foyer update! Originally I was skeptical about Sharrah painting her entry, but she was 100% correct. I think your space will open up magically when it gets painted. And with the mirrors? Gonna be fab! Good luck on all this and thanks for bringing us along.

I don't believe Sharrah painted the whole steps. She left the banister natural wood and I think part of the steps. I loved what she did. It really brightened up her entryway. Not so much a fan of dark wood.

I am not sure why large mirrors are criticized and said to be outdated. I placed a wall-to-wall mirror on one wall of my living room to open it up and brighten it. People seem surprised that I did this. It is composed of plain mirrored blocked, each beveled. There is no gold veins effect or smokiness, just plain.

I live in Florida & had a mosquito problem. I called my county, they came out, looked all over the property & sprayed. They also went to my neighbors properties & listed all the things they could do to avoid the problem, ie standing water, pots lying around with water, etc. What I learned was there are daytime & night time mosquitos, so I had them in the house during the day. Once we all did our due diligence, problem solved! Also, I installed bat houses in my trees😊 they eat millions of mosquitos every night❤

I use mosquito dunks, citronella plants, and lemongrass plants in pots around my patio. Not 100% effective, but does help. Web research says mosquitoes dislike the smell of citronella, peppermint, cedar, catnip, patchouli, lemongrass, lavender, rosemary, scented geranium, and basil too. Haven’t tried all of these, but may give them a try too.

Looking forward to seeing all your projects whether garage, new bathroom or entryway! You asked what projects we are working on. I'm in the process of closing up one of the outside doors that haven't been used since 2008. There was an old deck outside the kitchen that we tore down because it was partially rotted. The door has remained a bit of an eye sore, but I'm taking care of that along with some other things on that side of the house.

Mosquito dunks are the absolutely best in getting rid of the problem. Outdoor planters, french drains, bird baths, wet shady areas, gutters- just crumble them up and sprinkle everywhere. They are not poisonous and do not kill good bugs and insects. They work by essentially making mosquitoes sterile. Best thing ever. I live in the tropics and know. Even with the misting system, get to your hardware store and get them. I not only treat my yard, but nearby ditches and areas of retreating water.

Firstly, I love your design and your personal life videos. I've been a fan for years. As a serious asthmatic who struggles breathing every day, I am a little concerned about the chosen solution and the possible impact on any neighbours' health issues as well as any visitors to your beautiful home. I hate 🦟 but they love me too! 😅 So I do understand! My other concern is that whilst the solution may ease the mosquito issue, at the same time, it will cause a serious threat to the overall ecological system of insect species in your area. Beautiful butterflies are so rare these days. We need more natural solutions. 🦋

Hi Rebecca, I love the fact that you have decided to paint your staircase white, it will lighten and brighten your entryway beautifully and with that mirrored wall going upsairs, wowsers! Glam overload!!! I would even go so far as to paint out all the wood trim throughout your home including the window trim, just sayin’. With regard to the mosquito problem, I recently heard about and purchased the Thermacell Patio Shield mosquito protection unit that comes with a little butane canister and heating pads that release a repellent in to the air for up o 15’ of protection for the small unit and several hundred for the larger units. It works by disrupting the mosquito’s sensors so that they don’t come near the area when turned on. Genius! Now I can sit on my porch at night without having to close the screens and not one mosquito crosses the barrier. There’s no scent and no zapping noise just mosquito free heaven. You can buy ‘em on Amazon! I can’t wait to see your next video. I subscribed to your channel a long time ago and always look forward to watching your amazing videos! Keep ‘em coming! ❤

Thanks for sharing! Would you consider making your detached garage into an attached garage? Then you could easily enter/exit your garage without ever leaving your house. Maybe this could be done by adding a hallway with a door that attaches your main home to your garage? I think this would be helpful when it’s raining or snowing or just extremely hot outside. You don’t need to enter or exit your car in bad weather just to enter or exit your home. 😊

I live in a large luxury 1-bedroom plus den apartment which is decorated in the traditional design style I love the best: 9-ft ceilings, white woodwork and trim, crown molding and huge windows! Pale beige walls which I love because I can't stand anything gray - sorry! I've finally decided on my living room and bedroom curtains and they're turning out just the way I want: interesting but simple, not fussy. I'm leaving my den window uncovered because that's the sewing room and I'm on the 3rd floor looking out at trees, so it's just beautiful. Also working on getting just the right lamps for each room. It's such a treat to be able to decorate a gorgeous apartment just the way you want it! Thanks for all the inspiration!

In my 1929 home I painted every stitch of the upstairs tongue and groove walls and ceilings in 3 bedrooms (including the inside of the closets) and a very long and wide hallway, and then the stairwell all because it was TOO dark!! Best thing I ever did!!! Then I had to suffer through agonizing water damage in my 1956 MCM home that led to asbestos contamination by the clean-up company and then black mold started after the new HVAC system was put in (following today's codes). However, I also painted tongue and groove walls in that house; specifically the kitchen and "den" turned dining room once I had one of the walls removed to create an island between the two. I tiled brick fireplaces, put up fabulous wallpaper, painted the enclosed brick mud/sunroom and had the whole brick house painted setting off a painted brick house frieze for two blocks. I am so excited to see your updates!!! 💖

Yes, I have been working on several projects. One is a 750 sq ft space. I repainted and redecorated the four and half rooms that make up the space, a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bath and laundry that shares space in the bathroom. I removed cabinets and the ones that are left I’m in the process of painting. Very excited on how it turned out so far and I’m hoping that the cabinet makeover turns out well. It has taken me since February to do it, but I have done 99 percent of it on my own with my husband helping to remove cabinets and put up the shelves in place of the cabinets. Very excited about getting it finished. I also would like to redo the steps going to the upstairs, but hat will have to wait for another day. I’m sure all of your projects will turn out fabulous as usual. ❤❤❤

While we were visiting family in Texas 6/8-6/12 we had a plumber come trench new drain paths. Now I’m getting new flooring for the entire downstairs (trench affected three rooms) so new paint, crown molding and baseboards. Then new living room furniture. This process is all very new for me. I’m always amazed at the size of homes in the US - I think I should consider a relocation across the pond, lol. Great idea to paint the staircase BTW - that’s exactly what I would have done too. Can’t wait to see it!

Plant Lavendar around your home & put a fresh lavender plant in your home. Mosquitoes hate lavender. 🥀 For your pond put some bleach in the water every week. Just a little to kill the mosquitoes & eggs.

I am here to tell you I have a four car garage and we only park one car in our garage but now we do have the one that is tandem which of course opens up to our backyard and it’s like my husband said if we ever move I don’t know what we’ll do without having a tandem garage again. Once you have one it’s very hard to go back, the ease of being able to bring stuff right through is just unbelievably convenient and if you have an inground pool like we do it’s also unbelievably wonderful so the kids can get to the bathroom without going through my home. If you are working on the backyard you don’t have to go around you just walk right in the garage when we used to have real grass and we’d mow there was the mower we could still store in the garage but we can get in the backyard really easily. If anyone is looking into getting a tandem garage, I highly highly recommend.

I'm glad you're staying in Tulsa . I don't know why? I was born there and grew up close to the Utica Square area, so I was excited when you moved there. I knew it was going to be an about face from your southern California lifestyle. Mosquitoes are bad in a lot of places. Have you been to Houston? I miss the seasons. I'm sorry that your daughter moved away but atleast you can afford to travel and see family. You're the Tulsa queen!

I am doing a project well I’m having it done by a contractor. Ripping out our stair railing and having a custom built stair railing. Project starts on Aug 19th. Looking forward to it! Good luck to you on all of your projects. Look forward to your next video 😎

Thinking about your garage, there is a container store in OKC. They will measure your garage from top to bottom. Every door, light switch, outlet, etc. Then provide storage design…all free. Of course you can tweak the design, they order materials, and a contractor installs. You can add pieces anytime. I have a unit in front of my car in garage.

No butterflies 🥺 I live in the south, bodies of stagnant water & dark corners with hedges etc are mosquitos love nests. Mosquitoes don't like me unless I'm the only person around. U usually wear a lotion with a faint lavender scent that they do not like. I truly hate all the insecticides. I saw a yellow butterfly today, realized it was then 1st id seen this yr even tho we hv oodles of flowers for them. And the fireflies at night😢. I cant think of anything prettier than the glow the put off. Your home is beautiful. It's a beautiful sanctuary.

Absolutely love most every substantial architectural element... even the tiny bit of molding on the stairs makes an impact. Personally I would keep the stair tread and trim dark and paint beneath the trim on the rise! Can I just say, mosquitoes are the worst! For some reason I have always been a mosquito magnet and they are miserable little blood-sucking beasts! However, I started taking Thiamin (vitamin B1) when I got my dog and was outside walking her several times a day because I was being eaten alive. It was a miracle for me! No more mosquito bites (unless I forgot to take my vitamins). Definitely get rid of any standing water... keep the water moving! Here’s an idea for your water pipes in your pool house... before they put up the drywall, have them insulate each and every water pipe within an inch of its life! I would hate for you to have a repeat performance some other freeze. It’s always a concern of mine for my water pipes on outside walls during freezing temperatures. Generally I leave all cabinets under sinks on outside walls open freezing winter days. Not exactly the look I’m after but it does make you keep under sink spaces neater and I’ve had no water pipe issues.😉🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 Looking forward to seeing all the finished projects!

Would you consider painting all the dark wood trim white? If the outside of your home is historic and the inside contemporary, it would be a modern twist on something old. I tend to like that look and I see homes in Paris that have kept the traditional molding yet use modern furniture. Interesting combo.

Hi Rebecca, you are so full of energy, what vitamins do you take? I love you and your channel. My husband and I recently purchased a home and found it to be a "Money Pit". I am glad you mentioned your design classes, I need help! We are fortunate that we don't live in the house and can remodel without living in it. We ask ourselves, what have we done, we are Seniors, and we should be saving our money, not spending, but... Thank you for sharing.

I’m so envious of your ability. How many things I need. My husband’s was the handle man, now I’m alone trying to do it on my own. 69 now so I’m like just keep going girl, I can’t imagine having a boyfriend and ever-time I’ve hired help so disappointing. So I try to make it work. Love you

Rebecca , any water that is standing still ( not chlorinated) like your pool . But bird baths, ponds allow mosquitoes to lay eggs and multiply .if you keep your pond … put an aerator pump in it to avoid those nasty buggars

The mosquito issue here is a thing! Stay on top of it. I got West Nile from one of those pesky buggers back in 2012 and it hit me hard. Can't wait to see your stair transformation. I was voting for not painting the trim too;) Glad you are staying in Tulsa❤
