Why didnt you block check with bisschop last game? You’re a minor piece up and if het takes your pawn on e6 you check on d1 then win pawn on d4. You should be able to stop his pawn with your extra piece and have a past pawn yourself

It's just political correctness and wokeness. Native speakers like Levy do know this, they just want to avoid offending the snowflakes because while in the vast minority they are the loudest and most obnoxious voice. It has been the norm in old British English and still is the norm today in standard British English to default to "him/he" if the gender is unknown and if it's known that one is talking directly about a single specific person. "They" still may be used if you're talking about a single person and a noun, which is describing the person is preceding the pronoun, and you're talking to someone else about them. In fact, while writing this, I have just now used it in exactly this way. Example 1: One is talking about a single person, describing them to somebody else. Case in point. The person has been mentioned before the pronoun in the sentence, so it's correct to use "them" in this case. However... Example 2: Someone cuts you off on the road - you say, "What is he doing?" Without knowing the gender, but knowing it's a single person. One can't use "them" in this case, it is grammatically incorrect.
