Seriously, my lord. As a social worker, there is minimal evidence punishment works when encouraging someone to engage in a behavior, and it isn't ever recommended due to reinforcement of healthy behavior having high efficacy where punishments do not. The daughter was working through her issues in an honest manner which isn't easy to do (she wouldn't ask to keep going if she didn't find it beneficial). Basically saying "I'll take away the resource that's been successfully working with you as a person to get through these obstacles in your life as to to improve other aspects of your life if I don't see an immediate increase in those aspects." And while it was mentioned in the video, if you go "Grades haven't improved, me only see spawn eating again and talking to people, me punish" you'd probably score lower marks than your daughter considering that level of critical thinking.

Can we talk about how the stepdad could have solved his sons discomfort with period products by putting a lid on the trash can?

I mean you’re still going to see it when you open the can, it’s most likely that they are mad for the wrong reasons but I kinda get it because I don’t like blood at all, it doesn’t matter if it’s period blood or a nosebleed or a cut, I don’t like blood at all and everyone in my family wraps up bloody stuff in tissues

Or just be an adult and just put your used period napkins into a sanitary bag. For one I live with two sister and my brother's girl friend live with us. Your blood reeks and it's disgusting. Either find a different place to dispose them or just be a grown up and use a sanitary bag. He even asked. Because he could have been even worse and gave her the ultimatums of do it or move out, and wifey didn't like that then rethinking the marriage should be in the cards. Because he asked and didn't order it.

@@AllelujahHaptism98 his justification of "my sons haven't been around women and it makes them uncomfortable." isn't a justifiable reason to act like this is strictly her problem. there is an easy way to find a compromise of "please wrap it in toilet paper, but i will also talk to my son's about how this is normal and not something they should be uncomfortable with." everyone in this situation needs to act more mature. not to mention considering he's the one who made the post, it's very easy for him to edit what he said to make him seem more reasonable and her seem like a major asshole. i cannot imagine someone having such a vitriolic response to just being asked to wrap period products up so the blood isn't visible, so it seems there's more he said that he didn't include. it creates implicit bias. (also, as a woman myself, someone with a sister and a mother, and someone who works in a small business where we equally share responsibilities for things like cleaning out bathroom trash cans for women's sanitary products, it really doesn't reek. if the smell is strong enough to "reek," someone needs to be taking out the trash more often.) also edit: someone in another separate comment said "So fun fact the "secret period"/the skid marking sons actually had a really good edit and update where him and his son's learned and grew and accepted that they were being assholes and are now know more about female health." so to me, considering they *accepted* that they were being assholes, he was not fully honest about how the situation went down, and resolved it amicably because they were not in the right. so... yeah idk i feel like that's pretty revealing about the whole situation.

Same. I’m a 30 yo woman and have always had the embarrassing tendency to start crying when I’m angry or even when I’m just stressed or panicking. *IT’S INVOLUNTARY!* Women don’t cry on purpose! Like, do you even realize how hard that would be to do on command? Professional actors spend years training themselves to cry just a _little_ on command, and usually have to put irritating eye drops in to cry for multiple takes. So unless every woman on earth is a world class theatrically trained actor…that’s not how girls work.

They probably could do this every couple weeks or readjust schedules to fit more reddit streams, but that is taking away time from other projects that they might want to put more investment in.

I was lucky and never had to study. I write essays in 45 minutes and got As no trouble in High School. But I also had friends who legitimately struggled on the same things I found really simple. In much the same way I would struggle to run a mile or sing on key. They weren't stupid, they just had better talents elsewhere. If the problem was ignoring your work, then wouldn't it make more sense to limit your usage time on the Playstation? Or even only let you on it after you do all of your work? The “p*rn aunt” story is quite sad. To be a teenager is to misplace your anger. I hope that the mother has kept trying to get through to her daughter about this topic. That her aunt isn’t the one to be mad at, it’s the kids bullying her and weaponizing her aunt’s career against her. Reminds me of a kid I knew in school who got bullied a bit because his dad was a garbage man. The ridiculing died down by high school, but that must have been rough for that kid, a family member’s job negatively affecting you at school. The p*rn thing is so much easier to weaponize and a whole lot more damaging on many levels, I hope the daughter comes to terms with it soon.

I mean she def shouldn’t have called anyone names or been so mean to people but they can’t force her to speak to her aunt or to hang out with her. It’s completely understandable that she wouldn’t want to look at her aunt ever again. I mean if I was sent a video of my aunt doing the stuff they do in “Adult Films” I’d prob bleach my eyes before ever looking at or talking to my aunt again. That’s horrifying seriously. And traumatizing tbh. I feel bad for everyone in that situation tbh. It’s probably pretty rough for the whole family tbh.

I don’t understand why people are having more compassion for the aunt rather than the teenager in that story. From the info in their post they never straight up asked how the teenager felt, why they hadn’t told her before, or asked what the bullies were saying/doing. Like I’m pretty sure her classmates are not just saying ”ur aunts a hoe”, they’re probably constantly sending photos and videos of her aunts p*rn to her and the rest of the school. And it should also be considered that she didn’t know the aunts job before the facebook comment, and that we don’t know the type of p*rn the aunt does. Personally I wouldn’t want to see my aunt in any type of p*rn, absolutely not when I was fucking 14 y/o. To top it all off her mom then takes her internet away for 3 months ”bEcAuSe ShE sAiD bAd WoRdS” and preach to her about sexism and treating sex workers with respect. Sex workers deserve respect, but the feelings of the adult star is not the issue at hand in this story lmao, it’s an issue of bullying and, IMO, an issue of parents caring more about the aunt than their kid being bullied. I was bullied for 11 years straight so the fact that people (including her own family) are more concerned about the aunts feelings than what the teenager has possibly gone through is making my blood boil. Maybe they should be asking the kid what she’s going through rather than trying have a PSA at her school about sexism online to make it even worse for her 🤦‍♀️

My 2 cents is that he was probably taught that to apologise more than once is selfish, in the sense that, you've already communicated that you made a mistake, and that to keep apologising is more to soothe your own guilt than for the other person, who may end up becoming annoyed with the constant apologies. Obviously this idea seemed to have backfired, since she actually DOES want him to apologise again, and him refusing just makes it seem like he wasn't actually sorry, and that it took too much for him to even lie about it the first time.

I mean he’s still the asshole for not understanding her point of view whatsoever and then giving her such a strong punishment. She was a victim in this obviously and he doubles up on that by grounding her and making her feel like she completely invalid. The first story involving the 17 year old sister willing to go on a Tinder date, who according to her was complete stranger, did need a reality check. Maybe the brother and as well as the father then let it go too far by having her wait at the restaurant for her faux-date to show up and the scene that happened afterwards. However better for her to be embarrassed by family who were trying to give a little tough love even if they went too far, then to end up with an actual sketchy date whose intentions could be more sinister.

So the only other option I might add to your original comment is: 3. She feels genuinely hurt by the things that he is saying and is responding to that under the pressure of the discussion/his choice of language is still emotionally damaging without the need for yelling, whether that is intentional on his part or not

I will say, the WAP moment is either something the daughter and mom will be laughing over in a handful of years, or it will be one of the straws on the camel's back that come up at therapy, depending on the rest of the home situation. Don't get me wrong, the mom's not a bad mom (I mean she bought them pizza and delivered it), but as a teenager you're going through a lot and social stuff is pretty fragile sometimes, so I could easily see something mostly funny and innocuous like that being perceived as (or god forbid actually being) part of a larger pattern of social mockery.

Story #1 was slightly hairy but, for the most part was fine. The sister or brother whoever it was did not need to go to the restaurant. The parents needed to know and they did needed to go to the restaurant to see if the 17-year-old was following through with trying to meet men online. The restaurant meeting absolutely had to be done. Those meetings could go one of four ways. 1. Guy finds out she's 17 and walks away. 2. They go out. 3. She stood up. Or the worst case scenario 4. Date finds out that she's not 18 attacks or and possibly murders her. Did they need to completely confront her and start yelling at her in the restaurant? No. Mom and Dad could have walked up to her said we need to talk. Take her out of the restaurant no yelling, no embarrassing her. It was a conversation that should have been held at home. Not with that said her phone absolutely needs to be taken away from her. Give her a burner that has no data on it that way so she can still call and text home but no internet is clearly at the moment she cannot be trusted.
