Seen that happen when they installed the wrong part would not engage far enough and just caught the gear and grinding them away even had the right part number but just a different style

Great call on the starter. Heavy vehicle is a whole different specialty. Like you, I can do the basics but good luck with an accurate wiring diagram when chasing gremlins

I truly believe it’s the wrong starter. It’s. The only thing that makes sense they already put a new one and you seen what it did to it guarantee the starter is going to get stripped again. Stay blessed bro

I wouldn’t say damaged for life, but it is a major pain. I had it happen to me and I kept trying to rinse it out by myself for about 2 days before I finally went to the eye doctor. They had to numb my eye with some orange color dye stuff and they had to scrape the metal out pretty much. Very uncomfortable, would not recommend lol. It ended up starting to rust while in my eye, so they gave me some medicated eye drops to help with that, but overall my eye feels fine now, but it could have been much worse

Always ask for pictures before you take the call so you know what it looks like and what you could be walking into that seat for driving is illegal too

That's why he get's paid a service call fee. It's literally a fee that he gets no matter what. Unless he decides to waive it. It's in ADDITION to whatever he charges for the job. Some people waive this fee if they take the job. I believe Earnest does as well but don't quote me on it. But this fee is literally designed to protect the business from wasting their time and money. You call them and they get their ass out of the bed, you are paying no matter what. EDIT: Also it's not his job to worry about what is legal or illegal in terms of drivabiliy of a vehicle unless he is paid in order to do so. As long as he isn't breaking the law doing his repairs.

Not really and it really needs a new tank plus fuel lines after sitting for years. The starter that was on there was the wrong unit, didn't engage the flexplate properly so it broke the gear teeth off, I've seen it many times from DIY installs. Never assume a part is good just because it's new. The distributor wasn't bad but the cap and coil were from sitting.

Hey are they wanting to sale the bus? BTW how many times have you worked on cars with carburetors? You could have rebuilt that carb in about 30 minutes just setting it on a clean flat surface and simply remember exactly how many turns you turned the jets and the float settings. Easy pezzy

that carb had a governor built into it (specialty item).... you're better off without one. just toss on a standard 650 holley and you're good to go.

The starter probably from autozone. I bought two starters in a row they both was bad. Replaced the flywheel and didn't have to. Bought a napa starter and that did the trick
