Boxing is arts that move our hearts to show the soul. What's surging through all thigns along makes boxing's box sing you know. Sometimes the rain will fall from skies. Sometimes 'twil snow. Boxing is all at once, and while to and fro, and so and so.... Box sings.... It teaches things....

Started my boxing journey at 42. Always wanted to get into boxing when I was younger but grew up poor so couldn't afford a gym membership, at least this was the mentality my moms sowed into me. Now I got my own money and all 3 kids are off at college so I get to focus on things I love to do, Boxing. Covid slowed things down a bit but now 44, doing a lot of training at home but feeling and looking great and looking forward to get back into the gym and sparring with these young cats to show I still got hands and a beast in the ring :-)

Don't let age stop you from doing what you want sir, as long as you don't have health condition that could potentially be aggravated by that activity just do it. Honestly I've even seen 60s in the gym trainers knows how to pace them and you yourself must know how to pace yourself as well. at 40s man that's still a good age to be boxing, some of my gym mates are that age and are really good.

Just turned 27. 330. Dieting to get down to 170. Endomorphic complex. I know I'll be down over 100lbs by September. I know it. But I am finally chasing a fight career. I'm chasing MMA though against boxing. I have no prior experience in the amateurs. I'd rather ask a professional though. The reality of someone at my age thriving in MMA vs boxing is higher correct? Thanks for your input coach cook. I'm actually using your vids on KZbin in my home gym in my basement. So much appreciated.🙏 .

I started at 35. I'm the oldest in my gym. But I train 5 days a week like everyone there now getting ready for Olympic trials for Mexico. Best shape I've been in since high school wrestling. My gym do hard sparring, so I only get in there a few times per month and with my age comes a power that some of the young guns there don't have. I have to warm up more than all of them or else I pull something and it goes away slower these days. I plan to keep boxing forever. Thanks for letting me know about that Masters group. Got time to train for it!

Thank you for your time this was a great video. I’m 39 now and I’m a MMA fighter, started training in 2001 and I’m a striker so boxing is a big part of my game. In 2015 I got signed to TUF and life stepped in and turned everything upside down. Things happened and they were tragic but the moral of the story is I quit. Over the past few years I started seeing my training partners and friends get into the UFC. I never talk to anybody about it or said anything but it was really burning me inside. So for the past six years I watched all of them become stars and some of them fall by the side. For a very long time I blame the things that happened in life for my reason to quit. This past November one day I just realized and just manned up, it wasn’t anyone’s fault but my own for quitting no matter how hard I got in life. I decided to do something about how I’ve been feeling and I walked into another MMA gym. Right off the bat surprisingly I realize that I can still do everything that I used to be able to do. In that same moment I realized how much I loved fighting and wanted to pursue it for that reason alone. I’ve been training my ass off every single day no matter what no excuses just for the love of fighting. From this the wheels have just been turning. I’m under a great new coach that sees the potential in me and I’ll be fighting this year under him. I will fight anybody anywhere any time. I’m just so excited that I get to display my art and have a second chance at this. I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to get signed to the UFC but in all reality I really don’t care I just want to fight. I have nothing to lose and everything to prove to myself. I’ve finally realize it’s not about all the glamorous things and the superstar shit it’s about what’s inside of you. We all have something special and it’s up to us to get it out there. Thank you for this video Coach I appreciate it.

Boxing also shows you how tough you aren’t, and that can be a valuable lesson in life. I boxed when I was 16, I’m now seventy, had a few amateur fights and the regimented lifestyle was definitely not for me I liked partying and the ladies too much, but I trained in my 50s early 60s loved the work out. My experience has taught me respect for the fighters who put the hours in the gym, go to the nationals, turn pro, their whole life is boxing and there’s nothing easy about it.

At First wanted to be a World Champion and that's still the Goal, but going to be the best fighter I can and Hopefully reach that ultimate goal but if not will still be very proud and happy with myself for taking it as far as I could and I know it will be farther than what I started!!! Then my next goal will to be a Boxing coach and I've already started training my kids so that way I'm getting familiar with Coaching and if my kids want to take it further that will be Awesome and if not I'm always proud of them for Learning the Great Sport. And will continue to be a trainer because I still want to be involved in the sport that I love. I Kick boxed and boxed for many years. Fought pro am kick boxing in southern Ca. When i got to my mid 40s up until I was 50, I was gong to a boxing gym with several brothers who were all national silver glove champs and had other good fighters. If I was in shape I did well. If I wasn't (which was more often than not, because I had to work, have a family, etc...) I would barely survive sparring or get lumped up. It got to the point where I just couldn't work out enough to keep up with these young dudes who were working out 6 days a week, three hours a day and actively fighting. One father whose teenage kids boxed there, said; " I had over 200 amateur fights and was thinking of sparring with these guys until I saw you in there!! ) Lol. I must have been getting lumped up! The thing is, I still had reflexes and skill, but if you don't have conditioning, forget about sparring with good guys. Conditioning is a must. I've been Arm Wrestling for the last couple of years. I'm 57 now. I have to drop thirty pounds to get to the weight class I want to be at. If I do, I was contemplating doing some boxing again. I can still fight, BUT, if I don''t get in condition, forget it!!

I was in and out of boxing but started taking it seriously at age 38.I am an Investment Banker, got into my first white collar competition same age. I still train heavy , spar heavy now at 43. Considering having one or two more White collar fights then " retire " to trainings & sparing only. Can't imagine what I will do without boxing. Its a deep passion now obsession. Love the confidence it gives, the Class it upholds , the fitness you derive. Friendships you build. Appreciate all you are doing.

I'm so glad you touched on this topic. I'm a 56 year old educator who's been around the sport for twenty seven years and I've always trained as a boxer. I never aspired to be a professional, but I just enjoyed the training, sparring, and just being in that space. Many of my students and colleagues are definitely aware of my love and excitement for the Sweet Science! I have to give a shout to the AV Boxing club for instilling that attitude and dedication to the sport. Coach Anthony, as always, your discussions are on point!

37 and been at it for a few months. In this short time it has already given me so much especially mentally. At 33 I started suffering panic/ anxiety and depression disorder. Since then I’ve been on a downward decline. I used to be so confident and in shape. That all faded away. Since I started boxing I see my old self coming back. I’m so grateful because boxing makes you want to be in the best shape so that you can perform your best. No plans to ever fight as I haven’t even sparred yet, but I won’t say it’s not a possibility. Would love to have been able to fight in a ring in front of a crowd at least 1 time.

Thank you for this much-needed reality check, coach- much appreciated. I took up boxing just five months ago, aged 31, mostly for weight-loss/fitness reasons, and (in combination with diet) so far am down 95lbs. I still have a ways to go before I reach my goal weight, but the point is that I found this activity which made the immense weight-loss journey tolerable to me. I never did any kind of workout before, and after my first session was in a world of pain and discomfort, but that first session was enough to get me hooked to the point that I started going 3-4 times a week, and currently am training six days a week. My workouts are a combination of boxing, as well as strength & conditioning, and can vary from one-on-one work with my coach (mostly mitts and technique) to gym work to at-home heavy bag work. I train for 1-2 hours depending on what I'm doing that day. My body is sore all the time, and somedays I greatly dread going into the workout, but soon as I get those wraps on, I'm 100% all-in and ready to work hard. It hasn't been easy whatsoever, and I'm proud of myself for sticking to it, because previously I'd have run off at the first sign of discomfort. Just a couple of months into it, I had the idea to work towards a goal of having a handful of amateur fights within two or so years, and I'd still like to strive towards that goal merely to be able to say that I did it, but even if that doesn't ever end up happening, I think I'm ok with it because of everything else boxing has given me, some of which you've outlined here. For me, in addition to the biggest benefit of better health/fitness, it has been a massive confidence-booster and cured me of my previously long-standing depression + anxiety. I think a lot of folks who put on gloves might experience delusions of grandeur at one point or another, convinced that they will become a world champ... I even had that thought a few times, thinking I'd be some underdog legend who came from being almost 500lbs at age 31 to being a world champ... it's ok, maybe even healthy, to get those thoughts, but it's also important to be grounded in reality and know that sometimes certain (physiological) factors work against us. Sure, George and Bernard became champs later in life, but they had decades of training and experience leading up to that- not the same as someone who strapped on the leather at age 35 and worked for a decade to get there. Anyways, thanks so much for this amazing video full of truths and realities anyone looking to get into the sweet science ought to hear. I really love how you remained respectful of peoples dreams, even maybe leaving us a bit optimistic by reiterating anything is possible, all while stating time-proven facts. Much respect.

No need to say that my physical condition overall is 200% better than 10 years ago. I tried to go master amateur when I was 62. I was able to do 22 to 24 rounds 5 days a week, sparring 6 rounds twice a week. The problem is getting opponents at that age, which is next to impossible. Then my body just couldn't keep the pace.im 67+ now and still train 5 days a week, 6 to 12 rounds...3 minutes...plus 2 or 3 rounds on the speedbag. Plus weights. I started doing martial arts when I was 19. I still love to train. I may not be as fast anymore but it serves my purpose. Don't worry about the accolades....just keep training. One of the best decisions I've made in recent years. I have no actual plans of fighting, but I train twice a week and spar once a week. It's taught me soooo much about myself and has given me much more confidence in myself. I'm 42 now and I tell all my friends that they should do it.
