Its sad. Watching this race now so many years after Rodney has passed. My Uncle and Farris were really great friends and i knew him well enough that he visited me a few times when i was fighting cancer as a kid in 1991. RIP Rodney Farris. After all these years of 1/4 midgets, micro sprints, dirt late models, and sprint cars im still racing your #92

I lived by gate 3 and went to every flat track and Usac race since the 70s. But when Parker, Moorhead, and Springsteen were racing it was the best. I miss those days

I was at this race watching at exit of turn 4. I saw the crash and everything. Earlier that day i had to get something for my dad and grandpa. I got Rodney's autograph and he gave me a sticker which i put on the side of my dads toolbox that they took to every race. Rodney was a great guy. I now have that toolbox and that sticker is still on it. "RIP Rodney Hot Rod Farris!"

I have the deepest respect for motorcycle racers of any type. There is no type of athlete that even comes close to these ethereal warriors. They do what most people never even dare attempt... to truly live life.

If there were one part of my life I'd give anything to live over it would be 1966 through 1974 out there on those short tracks, half miles, and miles on my old BSA #77p. Hearing those big Gold Star singles thumping away, and the twins thru their megaphones with no front or rear brakes.

I saw Steve Moorehead the first time at the Daytona Short Track races about 12 years ago. He was the first motorcycle racer I had ever seen who was bald. Being bald myself I yelled through the fence "Win one for us bald guys". He turned, looked me in the eye and waved his helmet at me! He didn't win but I thought the fact he even heard me was amazing.

Moorehead is a bad ass... One of my all time favorite racers of old. He currently works with AMA and I am looking forward to seeing him at Lima Ohio on June 29th. His name was mentioned as much or more than anyone else in this video. He should get some credit in the title! Hell... five wide at the finish... if the line was 5 feet closer he would have won this one.

I knew him well enough that the last time he raced @ The Sacramento mile (I flagged corners 9yrs. there) he told me if he got any podium spot that night he was going to stop & pick me up at my corner, he was leading w/ 7 laps left in the main then got a (r) flat! I was shaking in my boots knowing I was getting that ride. He walked all the way out there & told me he was sorry about it, then he started telling me how ea. lap went with a big grin on his face. I never felt so honored as to have been a friend of Rodney's. God Speed Rodney Farris "Hot Rod" 92!

Vintage? Harley always got the AMA to make rules that Favor Harley ,. Until Indian came along and Dominated.. I guess they only reason the XR-750 was Vintage is because it was an air cooled Push Rod Engine..

I mean four abreast into turns sliding around on that blue groove, passes on every turn and straight. Does racing get any better than this ? No, it doesn't. American motorcycle dirt track racing is the shit.

Small wonder Farris was killed, that track killed him. That open space between the top and bottom rail coming out of corner 4 is a kill zone, get a body part in-between those rails and ever 12 feet there is a vertical post to pull on a body part. One of the first things I noticed when watching this. It wasn't until I watched the race and started reading the comments I realized the guy you were all RIP ( talking about ) was actually killed in this race. That's horrible. I'm 55, I've seen tons of these old tracks and various types of racing ( I come from a road racing background) it amazes me though how stupid we were with regard to safety.

I live in the isle of man and all the morons on the planet jump up and call it killer island or some stupid comment, but i also went out to the usa a lot and watched the flattrack racing, everything in life is right in front off you if you have not got the balls to do something , shut up please and have some respect for the people who had the balls to have a go at something they knew was not easy.
