Nothing can beat the sound of Harley’s racing pass the grandstand. Man I miss those days at the Sacremento mile.

I was a Ricky Graham fan and it was a sad day when He was gone forever killed in a house fire! He gave my son a trophy at a local Half mile event for winning a district Championship. He will never be forgotten in this sport!

When I bought my custom built '88 Sportster in '93, it came with a rear tire Ricky Graham had scrubbed in and still had his name written on the sidewall. I never met him, but the guy who built the bike was a racer and shop manager at the local HD dealer and had good connections. Pretty neat detail, I thought.

Yep, a family event for us. We all got up early and went to breakfast at The Spur on Monterey Rd. Then to the races. Often my dad was the official that measured the winner in f it was a Harley. I never raced the SJ mile but raced and even won at the SJ 1/2 mile. Love those Sundays in May and Sep.

I watched all these guys race at ascot park many times. I took pictures with a Polaroid camera mounted on top of a solI'd post. I could push that button 6 times and get 6 pictures of the riders technique on on ,ALL ON ONE POLAROID. try that today. Taught me a lot of the exact skill set needed to race. I once hurt both my calves lifting weights to hard, so I nailed 2 two by four boards to the heal of my shoes to walk around wherever I wanted to. CRAZY, RIGHT. THOSE WERE THE DAYS. IT GETS BETTER. when the race was over, I spent 2 hours looking for Kenny Roberts to get his signature. Finally found him, me with two by wood nailed to my heel of my shoes, a kid from ela. But he was very nice. Think he appreciated my determination 😁😁😁😉😉😆😆😆

This era was the most interesting to me. I was lucky enough to watch Chris Carr race since he was four years old out at Lodi Cycle Bowl. Watching him as a kid you knew he was gonna go a long way with it. And did he ever. The competitors were very interesting in the 80's. Parker, Springsteen, Graham, Shobert, Poovey and so many others. What a great era.

Agree, lots of contenders for wins, yes HD factory dominated with consistent results but good riding could really get a win because all of them were so closely matched

At 1:15 you can see rider #20 on the outside, look to his left and make eye contact with the rider on the inside. He probably yelled at him and told him to hold his line, don't force me outside and don't cause me to crash. Later he gives him the hand signal to Move Over/Don't Crowd Me.

+SanFranciscoBay Take a look at youtube "Ride the Springfield Mile with #1 Jared Mees, this is the best I have seen , really captures the speed of the mile track.
@sanfranciscobay8 жыл бұрын
+Bobby John. I watched the video. Go Pro camera was vibrating and it lacks the high definition and slow motion necessary to see how much drifting these riders do in the corners. Maybe a helicopter going around the track on the inside with a bunch of cameras attached, or some kind of magnetic floating traveling camera that moves on the inside of the track at the same speed as the riders.
