5 weeks 5 places, very difficult to choose between so many places. I am going to try it from my point of view but with some 1-day excursions to other nearby points of the city where you are staying. Week 1: Madrid. You like palaces in addition to the royal palace, you have to go to the escorial. Being in Madrid it is mandatory to go to Toledo, which is very close. You should also go to Segovia to see the aqueduct and visit its impressive castle (In Segovia there is also the Palacio de la Granja and you can eat "el cochinillo") and Avila, the walled city, you will be amazed. Vast walls that surround the city and were created in 1090. Salamanca is also recommended, a very beautiful city with a beautiful cathedral or Cuenca with its hanging houses. Week 2. Sevilla (Yes, it is pronounced Sevilla, in Spanish it is read as it is written) From there you can take a 1-day trip to Cordoba, which is not far away. Another day go to Cadiz and one of its beaches or the small white towns that are very beautiful. Week 3. Granada Apart from visiting the city and the Alhambra, if you go during the time of year when there is snow in Sierra Nevada you should go up and enjoy the day. From Granada you can go to Ubeda and Baeza, medieval towns. Another day you can also go to the province of Malaga, visit the capital and then choose between coastal towns or interior towns like Setenil de las Bodegas and Ronda, especially. Week 4. Barcelona and excursion to the monastery of Monserrat and another day some coastal towns such as Tossa de Mar. Week 5. Galicia and Asturias.

I don't know about the USA, but in Spain and other countries in Europe places like McDonalds or Burger King are basically frequented by teenagers and young people who go there because they're cheap and they serve you quickly. 26:48 That is an image of the so-called "ensanche", (expansion), of Barcelona. The old city of Barcelona was and is of medieval origin, with narrow streets and without order. In 1860 it was decided to expand (widen) the city in a more rational. The engineer Ildefonso Cerdá proposed an expansion of the streets in an orderly manner in identical grids, 60 meters on each side and 16 meters in maximum height, each corner of the squares that formed The streets had a 45 degree chamfer to improve the visibility of the (at that time) horse carriages, and today, the cars. It is the "new" part of Barcelona. Seen from the air, you can see the great grid of streets crossed by two large traffic routes, one diagonally, called La Diagonal and another called La Meridiana. In an aerial view, at the ends of this large grid, near the areas maritimes, you can see the contrast with the narrow and old streets of the original city of the Middle Ages, although its origin is from previous times, in the Roman Empire, then called Barcino.

I don't really go to McDonalds, Burger King and others (maybe once in many months). Teenagers may go on weekends, once or so, I don't now. However, if you visit Spain I strongly recommend you the "Menú del día" that almost all restaurants serve on weekdays (not on weekends). It is around 12€ (in Madrid maybe 13€ and a bit less in the provinces or in villages) for a splendid three-course meal including bread and a drink (bottled water, beer, wine...) and sometimes even coffee added to the dessert. It is the best deal and the food is prepared right there as at home (fresh). I don't think many other countries have this deal (not in Europe, maybe in Portugal), meant for workers out of home (therefore it is only served on weekdays). So, take advantage of that and don't do as other American tourists, who either go the fast food brands they recognize or fell in a expensive trap of ordering "À la carte" in a restaurant. The competition is fierce as there are many restaurants, but ask for "El Menú del Día". For each course you have around 5 choices, so it is not a fixed choice. You will find scores of restaurants on the streets of city centers just walking along any street, and usually they put the menú del día and its price outside you you can see it without even entering the restaurant. Walk up and down the street and choose what you like. Of course, this is an European country, so food is safe (EU's regulations are even more stringent than in the US regarding growing and processing food, I believe). So, if you want to save money=>Menú del día (unless you buy and cook your own food yourself).

Those "blocks" of buildings in the city of Barcelona, are the result of a plan to expand the city in XIX century, exactly in 1860. Madrid also had a similar plan in 1846. Since KZbin blocks links, you can check Wikipedia for Barcelona "The Cerdá Plan" and "Ensanche de Madrid" for Plan Castro (no English version of the latter) in you're really interested.

Those buildings in Valencia are quite recent, probably built in 1920-1930, but they're not nowadays buildings made to look "older". That was the style in the early XX century. For example Madrid City Hall (at 25:25 in the video) is a palace that everybody thinks it's quite older, but indeed it was built just in 1907.

Many states in the USA have names of Spanish origin. California, with cities of Spanish origin (Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santa Monica ... etc.), Nevada (Snowed), which the Spanish called this because of its snow-covered mountains that reminded them of the Sierra Nevada in Spain. Montana, which comes from "montaña" (mountain), in Spanish. Colorado, (Red) because the river had reddish tones, Florida, (Flowery), because it was discovered in spring, with thousands of flowers. New Mexico, Arizona, which comes from the Basque language, in northern Spain, "haritz ona", which means "good oak", since there are many of these trees in Arizona. And Texas, from "tejas" which are tiles in Spanish, because of the coverage that the Indians gave to their cabins. Also cities like San Antonio, Pensacola, Albuquerque, Laredo, Amarillo, El Paso, Toledo ... etc. are of Spanish origin.
