One of the greatest movies I have ever seen in my life. EVER. It won 8 oscars all of which it deserved - but it deserved one more, an oscar for Tom Hulce who acted as Mozart!

Abraham won the oscar (who played Salieri) as best male actor in a leading role. Hulce was competing against his costar! I think that Hulce should have been nominated for best supporting actor because the film is about Salieri's experience with Mozart.

Sarcastic Sugar - Funny thing is that this is the only movie that comes to my mind, that was nominated for two the best actor Oscars. Tom Hulce was very close to winning, but Academy Awards chose F Murray Abraham's Salieri as the superior performance.

Not quite. - the scene you say is from Le Nozze di Figaro is in fact 'Martern Aller Arten' ('Tortures of all kinds') from Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The abduction from the serail), sung by the role of Constanze.

I don't think I've ever obsessed over a film like I have with Amadeus. I can't stop digging into this movie. Layer after layer: The battle we face when place our own will against the will of the father. The fact that even a good man -- any one of us -- will commit evil and be consumed by it, as long as he feels justified. The question of talent -- where does it come from, and how can all men be equal when some men are so clearly naturally better than us? That's just scratching the surface!! Love Amadeus!!

And the story of how Amadeus was filmed with American as well as Czech crew in communist Prague, how Forman was spied on, how actors from Eastern Bloc envied fresh fruits brought from Austria in the western part of the canteen, how communist chief of the theatre - where Mozart actually premiered Don Giovanni IRL - refused that American would step on holy soil of this theatre, a decision which was later revoked from higher places...there is a lot:D

This film changed my life. I watched it for the first time in college during a music appreciation class that I wasn't really interested in taking to begin with. In case someone is wondering, the theory that Salieri murdered Mozart wasn't invented by this movie, nor by the play. It's a centuries old theory that spawned when old Salieri actually confessed that he murdered Mozart, but the twist is that his mind was clearly deterriorated and because of that History books have always seem that as just a ramblings of a mad man. The play and the movie studied that theory very closely and by combining it with prooved history facts, they managed to create a very beliavable way that these events could've happened if that theory were true.
@raunothomas
@raunothomas 5 жыл бұрын
No. Its not theory. But Salieri was quite very kind and warm person. And talented one as well. The intrique and story was betoned trough Pushkin, who is quite unfortunately not known at his best in English speaking world. Id blame poor translators, cause he has translated quite very well into Estonian. Russian and Estonian are like Russian and German languages... nothing similar, but if there is really good translator and poet... then miracled happen.

Among the other wonderful films of Milos Forman, "Amadeus" reigns supreme. It is a masterpiece of the highest caliber, a film that flows like a gentle stream on a midsummer's eve as angels dance in the softly moonlit sky. It also has fart jokes. There is not a moment that feels unnecessary or tedious, there is nothing to add or subtract as this film is, like the finest of Mozart's operas, a pitch perfect masterpiece. The performances are astonishing and often humorous, the script is filled with wit and intrigue, the cinematography is astounding, dropping the viewer in the middle of the 18th century in a manner that is enjoyable for the most modern of audiences, and the music is, of course, brilliant. Brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT!-a word that describes this film with total accuracy. It is not only a brilliant film, it is a brilliant film about brilliant people, and the entire concept of brilliance itself. It is a celebration of one of the most brilliant artists ever to grace the world, and it captures his struggles, triumphs, comedies, and tragedies in a manner that is no less than BRILLIANT!

When I was younger I ran away from home and stay with my friend for a few months. He had the worst movies you could think of and out of all my choices I ended up picking this one. I figured I would just throw it on and just go to sleep you know. I actually loved the movie so much I watched it every night to fall asleep to. I would actually not even fall asleep alot of the times at the beginning because I would watch it all the way through then go to sleep. I did this for like 3 months. Needless to say I really love this movie haha.

I remember having to watch this in junior high vocal class in the 80's and I wonder if it would even be allowed these days? I loved it and haven't seen it since so it will be a whole different experience as an adult!!

It's interesting the title of the play was Amadeus, not Mozart or Salieri. The word is latin for "I love God"

I heard it meant 'loved by God'. There's this scene in the movie where old Salieri explains to the priest about Mozart, and when he ways Amadeus, he looks up to the sky (to perhaps God), in sadness and frustrated anger as to how Amadeus died young even though he was loved by Him. Similarly, it explains the God-gifted genius of Mozart. And it suits the name. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@@amiqai "I love" would be Amodeus, the first person of amare (to love). So yepp, you're right.

0:07- The hell? Is this movie set in Splatter University? 0:19- I must have missed the part where Amadeus was also Dario Argento's Opera. 0:53- "I mean, he's no Falco." 1:15- Is he also possessed by a ninja like in Ninja III: The Domination?

I have only seen three great movies, directed by him: "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975), "Amadeus" (1984), and "Goya's Ghosts" (2006). I am interested in viewing the director's other films! Do you have any recommendations?
