Honestly this is the only time when the fourth ending actually makes sense. In all other play-throughs you are just throwing under the bus all the demons who helped you the along the way. But here, you did it all on your own without relying on demons (other than Aogami)

What a run it was to watch. Shiva alone seemed like absolute hell, but props to you for your persistent's in going at it solo and learning his quirk's. Some might look at the use of DLC as a bit of a run invalid, but personally I see it as just making the prep work go faster. Great job and you certainly earned a sub for this.

I couldn’t record it but I was able to beat demi fiend solo. You need an absurd amount of vitality but you *can* tank gaea rage. After 32 new game plus runs my vitality is 527. Megidoloan and freikugel do minimal damage and gaea rage does 150-250 damage. Chaotic will is the only scary ability left.

My only point is that it is possible… just not practical. The max stats are 999 so doing many new game plus runs is the only way to make it possible to solo demi fiend. Most players are better off modding their stats though

I have yet to play this game, but if it's any merit... There was a way to confirm the identities of Ongyo-Ki's clones back in Nocturne, so perhaps a similar method could be performed with Tsukuyomi? The method required you to enter the fight during a *full moon* (or, in that game, full Kagutsuchi), during which you could see the real Ongyo-Ki's shadow.

This was amazing to watch. I haven't played this yet(I've so far only been on the Persona side of things play wise) but I was curious. I've fallen into the challenge video hole and this was recommended to me. And I certainly am glad it was. I started tearing up when you got Shiva to low health animation. Your flashbacks to the times you'd died. It was all just...amazing. Wonderful. This was lovely.

I remember having the exact same issue happening with Shiba and fionn's rematch, so maybe it has something to do with how luck functions in this game? My first playthrough of this game was "typical" run, with demons, on hard. My second (fresh new) was Nahobino solo, on normal. I have only 2 registered demons in compendium (Pixie and Tao) and even though I played on normal and not on hard, I fell a sense of accomplishment, namely because I didn't have (nor do I plan on using) Mitama DLC. I haven't beat Demifiend, tho. 😕😕😕 But I will, one day. Solo run in SMT V was really fun, and definitely less stressful than solo run in Nocturne.

The mitama dlc is so broken that if you activate all of them, you'll be overrun by mitama and the normal enemy will become the new mitama. You can even encounter the elusive mitama that drop gospel in group of 3 if the RNG is right.

This is so cool. I love SMT solo runs (watching them, not playing them) and I wonder if there are any optimizations to what you can do, specially against Shiva since you needed NG+. What do you think, is there still a chance to beat Shiva without demons and not in NG+?

NG+ was required for 2 reasons: obtaining drain physical (equipping the skill on nahobino) and more balms to survive the impaler animus boosted attack at -2 defense. The balm issue could be solved with better planning and stat points allocation, but I don't see how you do this without drain physical. The only source of drain physical in the game comes from Nuwa's essence, which is an essence that you cannot get unless you go to NG+. The easier way to get drain physical would be to switch your affinities to those of a demon who drains phys naturally (i.e. siegfried) but there is an issue with that. If you do that, then you don't have a guaranteed way to avoid Kali's fogna. Status immunities are a lot harder to get because your only reliable way to get one is to change Nahobino's affinities. That's part of why I changed my affinities to those of Zao Gongen's essence, to make sure I had a mirage immunity to deal with fogna. I did a lot of testing and combining the drain physical skill and Zao Gongen's essence looked like the best combination. Maybe there is another way to tackle this fight but this is the best strategy I was able to come up with.

@@Doos No idea if this will work, but perhaps you could kill Kali so Shiva summons Parvati? Parvati uses hama and marakukaja, so you would need to grab drain light as well (which unfortunately would have to replace high restore) and hope that the longer fight is manageable, but it gets the fogna issue out the way. You can then use Siegfried's affinities for drain phys and inherit resist fire (instead of drain phys) and drain elec as usual. It does add another problem though, which is mp and healing item management. I'm not sure if you will run out of items dealing with Shiva if Parvati starts putting up marakukaja. Nice job with the run btw, it was a treat to watch!

I like JRPGs with interesting takes on the turn based formula (SMT, Octopath Traveler etc...) and it looks like that game is right up my alley. I borrowed and played my friends copy years ago but I still play the shadow hearts 2 that I own to this day. I've played through it like 8-10 times. Currently trying this run out myself, and bro let me tell you using mitamas to level is absolutely the way to go. You are doing yourself a service with the amount of time saved and you still have tons of difficult fights that actually matter for you to get through. The game actually feels more rewarding this way, and theres so much extra glory to use when you dont have to care about demons!

The reason none of the gods in Taito use their scary pierce skills is that they only use them the second time you fight them in optional side quests. What's weird though is that as far as I can tell, you only get to fight Zeus again in that way. It feels like the other two would have had a similar aquisition method that ended up getting cut. Would've been neat to have each one tied to endings 1-3 to incentivise NG+. Since I wanted to play on hard for my first run, I just got done with it. Zeus was instrumental in nuking down the last few bosses and his second fight was plain dope. Even managed to first try him with a couple of very close calls.

Nah Zeus can use Keraunos in his first battle, he very rarely replaces Maziodyne with it. Odin also always uses Gungnir after Charge which he can only do on his second Press Turn

I know you are teasing, and for those who don't know about SMTV Demi-Fiend (somehow), it's pretty impossible solo. Buffs, debuffs, aggresive elemental coverage, big damage, instakills, healing, Gaea Rage which acts as a timer that WILL kill anyone who is alone and Chaotic Will which if it does not kill you, you basically lose a turn which leads to Gaea Rage. I would like to see the Fiend fights that lead to Demi-Fiend.
