Amalgamation Blend 2 Blended Barrel Aged Stout:Barleywine by Equilibrium Brewery Episode 216

The Amalgamation series continues with our newest blend. As the name suggests, we use the series to take two unique liquids and join them for a singular creation. Amalgamation Blend 2 takes one part Imperial Stout aged in a ruby port butt for just over 38 months and blends it with one part 55 month old Woodford Reserve Barrel Aged Barleywine for the latest in the project.
Amalgamation Blend 2 has a medium to medium thick body with aromas of dark caramel, chocolate-covered figs, dark berries, and roasted coffee. Complex flavors of deep chocolate, raisinets, caramel toffee, fig newtons, and cold brew lead into what is a coalescence of luxurious flavors with kisses of barrel character, subtle heat, wine tannins, toasted sugar, and melted caramel. Not overly sweet with a big barrel presence, let this one slowly warm when you enjoy it for the perfect amalgamation of flavors.

With these types of blends, I find the stout dominates the taste and smell while the barleywine lends smoothness to the mouthfeel... great review!
