Always feel that the wire between the contactor and the one cap is light gauge maybe like a number 14 I think it’s a good idea to double up like you did or also increase wire size from contactor to capacitor using number 10 with a couple new spaide terminal. Nice videos Ted in addition the other day I tried your trick using the drill bit on the Stuck condenser fan blade On motor shift and it helps me out thanks for the tip

I'd always check amp draw at start up when the disconnect is that close since it's easy and that wire burnt up. Could be the beginnings of Lock Rotar and might call for a hard start kit soon depending on amp draw. Looking at the previous work from another company, this homeowner just found a better AC company that will be available when the unexpected happens.
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
should always replace the contactor in a situation like that or any electrical component/wire that's been overheated and oxidized. even though you replaced the wire and moved to a different terminal, those terminals tend to overheat all lugs at once due to the design and it could have been caused by a failing contactor and heat migrating up into the terminals. it will happen again and sooner than later, causing a callback and huffy customer or even a non-callback.

Gotta love an easy one like this !! it worries me though that there is no segregation or insulated connectors in AC connection boxes. Honesty is always the best policy and giving the owner the burnt wire is key to them possibly making you their # 1goto next time. Do you carry a hand held infra red thermometer ?? that may help you find hot spots such as this.

I havnt seen a low pressure switch tee in to the suction port before. I guess thats easier than brazing in a new one? thats only reason I can think of??
@davelabreche38963 жыл бұрын
If your factory low pressure switch failed (or if it never had one to begin with), it is MUCH quicker to simply add a swivel tee with new encapsulated switch and wire it in place of the old. If the system was already open with no refrigerant, then you might consider brazing one in.

Fun fact on these units, an OL capacitor will cause this board to give you an open start circuit error. Just check it before you go through the trouble to ohm the compressor windings.

As long as you are there wouldn't it a prudent thing to replace the cap as preventive maintenance? Around my area they seem to last about 10 years. I'm just a homeowner, not an HVAC tech.
@davelabreche38963 жыл бұрын
He said he gave the homeowner some recommendations but they want their usual contractor to do that work for them. Also Ted likely tested the capacitance of the part and saw it was still within spec.

Hello, I have Amana prestige 2. The heating unit works great except when the outdoor temperature drops under 40's. So, if a cool front comes through and the outside air drops down into the 30-40's at night or even during the day, the heating unit will not turn on to heat the inside. The inside blower continues to run. After a few hours and a few turn-on-off, the heating pump may work or may not. This will happen over and over. I have to shut the unit off. I replaced the condenser with a new one and it is still the same. I also do not have this problem when the outside temperature is ’50-’60s, the heating unit starts and runs fine. Can anyone give me any feedback on what may be causing this? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

100% correct and what a mess in the AC world - no segregation multiple voltages duel capacitors in that case multiple cable entry points that are not sealed spare conductor used to anchor the thermostat cable to the case of the outdoor unit- what an absolute #hit show as Stevie Lav would say - then ol Ted comes along and gives us all a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng explanation about nothing.
