In Nancy Meyers' The Holiday, a romantic comedy from the director of Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want, two women trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Iris (Winslet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda (Diaz), realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Law) and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur (Wallach), mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles (Black).

@Margaret Craigie I'm not blaming woman, I absolutly would blame both parties in an affair, it is a decision between two people. Yes, the women isn't the only one to blame, but she's 50% to blame. And there is no changing of that fact. Both parties are just as much to blame, no matter who's married. Someone who is making themself available, even though they are married to someone believing it is a monogamous relationship, doesn't make the engaging party not blame. Both are responsible for the hurt they causing, for the consequences and for the cheating, there is no question there. Both are in the wrong and in most cases horrible people for the decision they made

I love how Cameron’s character engages in the girls’ tent. Plus the nod to the film “A Man and a Woman” when they are chasing each other in the, for lack of a better word, yard with cedars and such. All of the new relationships are so positive. Kate Winslet with the elderly gentleman (I am embarrassed that his name doesn’t come to me immediately) and how their relationship develops so winsomely. I never tire of rewatching this film. One of my favs occurs when Kate turfs Rufus Sewell when he turns up at her Californian rental. Major score! But the whole thing about child actors growing up : those two wee girls, Freddie Highmore in “Finding Neverland”, the wee son in “Love Actually” …. They were such great actors at such a young age and some have achieved greatness as adults!
