This movie saved my life 3 years ago. For some context, I got my girlfriend pregnant at 17. We decided to keep it so I dropped out halfway through my junior year and got a job at my family's garage. We had the baby, a beautiful boy, but his mother died during the birth. I was distraught but I was determined to stay strong for my son. Things began to get better but that was cut short when my father died in a car accident. Then, a month after that, my son died in his sleep. It was one of those cases of SIDS, and I'll probably never know the cause. I had nothing left and I wanted to end my own life. I hadn't decided how I would do it, I just knew I would. Some school friends of mine were going to a 20th anniversary re-release of Cast Away and I asked them if I could join them. I knew it could be the last time I saw any of them. I didn't plan on this movie saving my life but it did. It taught me that no matter what life throws at you, no matter how hard it may seem, you gotta keep going. I finished high school online and went to college to study film, which is what I had planned to do before all this happened. I've started seeing a girl, just a few dinner dates so far, and I haven't told her what happened yet, but I will soon. I don't know yet if I want another child and I think it will take me a long time to decide. Those few months I had with my son were the greatest of my entire life, but I never want to experience loss like that again. I keep a photo of him with me wherever I go, and I've purchased the plot next to his grave, so that whenever I do pass, he'll be with me till the end of time. I don't know where life will take me, but I know I would be dead if I hadn't gone to see this movie on Christmas Eve 2020. Thank you Robert Zemeckis, William Broyles Jr. and Tom Hanks. You saved my life.

I lost my wife to cancer in 2013. Eight years of treatments and remissions of ovarian. Scenes like this resonate deeply with me of course. They speak to us beyond words, which is why there are few spoken. Even her directions are spare. Her manner distinctly friendly yet unintrusive. She seems to sense the situation, as they say. I’m an artist also. Have been all my life. The wings are both obvious yet open to interpretation in her work. The fact that she drives away leaving a wisp of dust “shows the way” whichever way he goes. Her loveliness hangs in the air. Wry honesty too, which both appeals to him and makes him wonder. What comes next? In my case I found love again. A woman that shares my interests, and I hers, as did my first wife. I’ve been at that crossroads. Essentially we’re all there at many points along the way. A sense of wonder is mostly what keeps us going.

Lari White was my Biggest Country Crush ever and I fell for many female singers, but she was special. I was madly in love with her, she had so much personality. I honestly thought she was Thee Most beautiful woman in all of Country Music even over Shania Twain. I loved Shania too, and she was no overnight success either, but Lari in my opinion should have and could have been damn near as big. Nobody had a better voice or more stage presence and she was a brilliant song writer. Never a favorite of Country Radio Programmers who loved to stick her in a 7 hour rotation, she somehow still managed 6 Top 20 country singles, 3 Top 10's and one Number 1 song on the Gavin Report. Her second Album "Wishes " in 1994 was certified Gold, but there were incredible songs that never saw a release on that album that could have easily pushed it beyond platinum. Her next two CD's which she produced were even better, should have established her as one of the biggest Stars of the day. Neither got much promotion and only had one video a piece. Nashville sure didn't and still doesn't know great talent. She was an awesome, singer incredible songwriter and one of the Best-Looking ladies I've ever seen in life. Could have been a huge Movie Star. She did appear in some TV movies and Television series.

One minute on screen and I've never forgotten her. As has already been said here, Lari White was a famous country singer. She lost the little finger on her left hand when she was a child but could still play guitar just fine. You can see her missing finger as she puts her arm out of the truck window just before driving away. I also love how she waggles her hand dismissively when she says "California"... I've always thought/hoped that Chuck gets back in his Jeep and goes after her. But I also love that the movie ended as it did.

@TJD 512016 I somewhat agree. Life re-invents itself for so many people, and it doesn't take being stranded on an island for that to happen. It is true that his former life is a memory now, but that is life. I have had my life altered severely by certain events, and I never thought I would recover. I was on a road trip with my two boys and one of their girlfriends in 2015, and I sprung on them the notion of seeing this exact spot, which I had already found via the Internet. And this location is very much like the movie portrays it. In the middle of nowhere. And if you go down that dirt road the way the hot gal did, after about 2-3 miles, including going through some grazing land and very possibly encountering cattle, you come across Arrington Ranch, which looked very similar to how it looks in this movie. The only significant change is that there are a lot of windmills in the fields now. It was a thrill for me to see the place though because this movie really pulls my heartstrings. I parked my car just like Tom Hanks' jeep was parked, and I basically described the scene where the hot gal drives up. The kids were a little ... patient... about my interest in the place but they did think enough to buy me the movie for Christmas that year! And of course we watched it together.

Love how he is at a crossroads. She leaves and he looks at her road. Turns to his right on the road. Turns directly South of her road. Turns to his right again. Last shot he turns back onto her road again and smiles at the camera. That’s some great directing right there.

Yes! François Roland Truffaut on his BEST day, wouldn't suggest to an actor to face in 4 consecutive directions to pointedly illustrate the choices before the character. Zemeckis is a master! Dare I say genius? j/k

Of course it is a crossroad. The entire film is about nothing else but choices and priorities. In fact, the crossroads scene was so overdone it was like hitting us in the face with a shovel.

@Anton Boludo with all the negativity the media pushes, this movie inspires, enlightens and really speaks to the good in us. Both Hanks and his wife did the right thing vs caving to their deep love for one another. How good will they forever feel about themselves.

One of the greatest endings in motion pictures. A simple package kept for years..dragging a lone human through the worst..and in the end, the best of times waiting. The young Lady was his Angel destiny..simple as that.

@@mudemmeonick In my case, I met a wonderful lady, We married and together we built a new life that happily includes my late wife's grandchildren, who became for me the children I never had. Now I am a proud great grandpa. In my new life I have had the privilege of sharing the path to adulthood of my second generation of grandchildren. Their visits to our small farm have been an enriching experience for all of us. Shepherding their paths to new experiences, sailing, fishing , shooting, flying, handicrafts, farming and go karts for both generations. Their delight in discoveries with us is a joy for me. They had great fun hatching and raising our chickens but did not know what to make of hatching snake eggs. Now, with the passage of time this generation of grand children is entering adulthood. It will be fun to be a great grandad to another generation. Now, it is my turn with the Big "C". The prognosis is over 5 good years. No complaints here, it has been a full life with more good to come.

A few years ago I visited that intersection. Parked my car where Tom's Jeep was parked. It was somewhat different as the road signs weren't the same, the movie's road signs were used to comply with the time-frame of the scene, and there are wind generators in the fields now. Still, it was a pretty cool moment.

Actually 2 things saved him on that island. 1 was the thought of his fiance'. 2 was the angel wings parcel he refused to open and use- but made his mission to deliver ( his duty, his purpose, his goal, his direction). Just like North is a grounding reference point on compass ......this angel is also on the North Road - when he is at the crossroad in his life - metaphorically and literally. She is his real purpose..until now hidden purpose.
