As a white male who grew up with a culturally diverse extended family . 100% Racism in all forms is LEARNED as is colourism within each race. I had friends of all colours and ethnicities and only understood is all to be different not “different” I do believe Children brought up in racist environment don’t understand the effect or impact of their behaviour being racist because it’s simply what they’re brought up with no less excusable but up to an age ( because if your not being educated at home it your being taught at school ) it’s about the fact that your hurting someone period regardless of context and correcting that behaviour immediately. You blame the upbringing not necessarily the product. Unfortunately it’s all learned behaviour … children are not born thinking their differences can be perceived as negative be it race lifestyle gender sexuality religion….. they are taught to be cogniscent of these perceptions based on things passed on . The hard part on both sides is just letting go. On one side it’s realizing your ancestors passed issues have nothing to to do with your current existence understand we are just people and differences are surface level in every way . On the receiving side it’s hard to let go of all the of the atrocities youre ancestors experienced as the hands of people with these issues , because while you’re world is different they went through it get you here and letting go may feel like you’d be denying their struggle so you end up carrying it forward in a way as well .

@@matthewlima7121 Racism is a form of otherism and humans are predisposed to some form of the latter. Studies have shown 1) We prefer people who look like us (or like someone in our family), 2) We prefer people we see as similar to ourselves, etc. So while a specific strain may be “learned”, we are easy to learn and apply it and in the case of “racism” of whites against non-whites, and for the former it has been immensely enriching and empowering as morally degrading as it may be, therefore it survives and perpetuates.

In my opinion, Amanda is so self-aware and direct and a segment of the people who strongly don't like her or find her annoying are arguably uncomfortable because they don't have or have not personally reached her level of awareness, confidence, & unapologetic resolve to fight injustice. The mindset is "I can't silence my voice and saying the hard truths because of anyone else's discomfort" and I 100% understand it & support it. I am also appreciate Amanda's candidness and the visibility/representation of someone living on the spectrum.

This interview was necessary for him as well!! I knew Amanda is always going to stay true to herself, but I feel like he can listen and learn as well. This will help his platform and others who need to hear it and be challenged in this way.

@@spendleton79 what did he need to learn? Outside of Shannon learning how to identify her personality disorder (not autism as that is not a PD) there was nothing profound about what she said. Talking to her is a useless blank mission.

this was a masterclass of how to understand, misunderstand, stop, teach, listen, and learn all in one. Anybody that says I would've just left or Shannon should've kicked her off, you are the problem. Who you are isnt going to be instantly understood or accepted. through time and effort understanding can be gained. Great interview.

This is the best Club Shay Shay interview, in my opinion. SO MUCH is on the table here which Amanda delivers with the patience of a teacher and passion of an artist. I've listened to it multiple times as I will never get bored with the twists and turns of the conversation - even Shannon himself misunderstands her (often) but she confronts it perfectly. I'm a big fan of hers.

Regarding the kids using racist language part. It's intent vs impact. It doesn't matter if the kids "were just repeating what their parents said." What matters is the IMPACT of their words on Amanda. That's what we need to focus on, not making excuses for them. Calling her the n-word and minimizing her talent was racist. Period.

There is nothing that can necessarily be done about him lacking the intelligence to survive three hours with Amanda, but he could and should have been willing to give her the same open safe space as the rest of his guests and allow her to share her story and do what she sadly always has to do...explain herself to the world.
