A regiment of Haitians (Santa Domingo at the time) fought in the American Revolution, not the Civil War. During the Civil War, there were hundreds of thousands of Black American soldiers who signed up to fight and they were the turning point that helped the North win the war.

The people that came to the USA from Haiti that fought in the Union Army were Black Americans. In his book "The Crime Without a Name: Ethnocide and the Erasure of Culture in America", Barrett Holmes Pitner mentions that two of this male ancestors left South Carolina and moved to Haiti in the early 1860s. They stayed for a year and returned to the USA to enlist in the Union Army when the Civil War started. A regiment from Santa Domingo made up a white Frenchmen fought in the American Revolution on the side of the anti-British revolutionaries. France and Britain were rivals.

Amanda saying how Haitians fought in the civil war (which isn’t true) is exactly why FBAs are delineating. Even if that was the case, why are you trying to take credit away from the 99.9% just to give credit to 1% and act like we did it together 50/50 or as if we owe anyone.

FBA is here to stay. FBAs should've started gatekeeping our culture a long time ago, but it's even more important now that there are so many Caribbeans and Africans here. We aren't the same, we have distinct histories, and distinct claims. Delineation is a must so our group isn't washed away like the founding Anglo-Saxon Englishmen. That group didn't delineate and they got washed away into a mixed (i.e., Irish, Italian, etc.) blanket Whiteness. We're not gonna let that happen to FBA.

26:50 funny, you weren't talking like that when you had Yvette on, and why aren't you talking about the disrespect coming from the carribean side, Busta rhymes and kai cenat saying "black Americans don't have culture"? Very strange. Why ask this question in such a loaded; leading, softball fashion? Are you afraid to evoke the ire of a seales meltdown? They're just words Hill. Be real, give black americans a fair shake in diaspora discussions. Very strange, Sir very strange.

Unfortunately Amanda lost me during this series of media blips. I find her smart but unwise, I think she needs a Maxine Waters or Nikki Giovanni as a mentor. Waters is wise, bold, and graceful when necessary. Amanda literally got next but runs from accountability . The culture needs her . Stop running when people hold her feet to the fire, avoid victimhood, woe is me verbiage. We need a fighter in this space. She doesn’t need to run off her resume EVERY TIME. What’s your plan or vision for the culture, which cross are you about take up? Where we going with it boo!

I like her perspective and appreciate her commitment to Black entertainment. She's an entertainer and her lane is promoting visibility of Black wit. But, she's not a movement organizer, activist, politician, or thought leader imo. And that's ok to embrace. She keeps running down her whole damn resume 'cause on every video I've seen with her as a guest in the last few months, folks in the comments say: "wHaT dOeS sHe EvEn Do AnYwAyZ??" Is it more wise at this point to let those who actually care just go look at her IMDb? Yes! Do I understand her thinking it's necessary to defend her body of work? Also yes.
