To respond to your shoyu question, it depends what you eating it with or making with it. I love the brewed Yamasa (red cap) on sushi. I think Kikoman makes really good teri sauce so that's what I use for kalbi. I use Aloha Shoyu for everything else.

Aloha, great vid - cool idea! Mainland fan here but my wife was born and raised Oahu. Every time we go home she gotta go to fave restaurants, especially Jimbo Udon on King St - I just found out they closed up for good because of pandemic finance stuff. We’re heartbroken but I thought maybe it could be a good vid or series of vids about where to eat now if you’re fave iconic eats had to close. At the very least it might help us find a new place for curry udon. Mahalo!

Thanks for poke alternatives! I dont get salmon as poke thing. I like Aloha but use kikoman also, i like this Korean shoyu with kelp in it from Palama market. It has same sodium as kikoman low sodium. Bummers on the tegu. You folks make all the foods i never tired look so good! I never tired that ice cream place. Thanks Amanda & Felix 😁🤙🏽

Awesome to te non-ahi Poke alternatives, and sharing about seafood possibilities...i.e. ono Top Shelf poke;) Shout out to recovering-Felix to explain why "Previously Frozen" label should be on ALL retail-fish items, and explaining why Fresh-Fish enhances Local Fishing businesses. All supermarket's poke is "Previously Frozen" and know Foodland's poke is frozen-fish from the Philippines. No comparison of Fresh Poke! And loved Amanda's distaste for overcooked-rice or "mushy-rice". Confessed that I was attracted to your foodie-videos due to CUTE, pretty Amanda; Food Princess....heh,heh. Great editing by a Hottie!

May not be sustainable but my favorite poke is clam poke! I love all clams except clams on the half shell. Oysters on the half shell is great! I didn’t know there was such a variety of poke choices! Felix talk talk Amanda looks like she is ready to eat! Haha! I love opihi! I had my first opihi at Alan Wong’s. Too bad it’s no more! I think Aloha is a bit too salty. I use Kikkoman!

Note for your situational awareness: In regards to regulated resources; harvesting Opihi (limpets) harvesting is prohibited in MLCD's-Marine Life Conservation Districts and NAR's-Natural Area Reserves. The Opihi with shell diameter must be 1-1/4 inches in diameter, if only the Meat, diameter must be 1/2" in order to harvest. Individuals harvesting undersize Opihi can be fined anywhere from $500 to $5000 dollars, or up to 30-days in jail......BTW! I loooove Salmon poke & Taegu! on hot rice, the bomb!

Foodland, Kaneohe is our go to. My fave is the tofu poke with limu. Got little bit sesame oil. So ono. Haven’t seen fried tofu here. Also their garlic shrimp. So yummmm. 💕 I’ll need to go Tamashiro for some of that top shell and that raw tako. I use to be a Kikoman fan. But changed to Aloha cause not as salty. 💕💕🤙🏼🤙🏼💕💕

Hey buddies great video showing different poke varieties. I prefer Tamashiro Market over Taniokas. I just posted on FB this morning supermarkets in my area not selling kajiki, heading to Tamashiro this weekend to get slab of kajiki & limu if get, & i going make my own poke. Ahi prices crazy and i neva see nice slab yet. The old skool Japanese Ahi Poke had ginger in it. Emjays Supermarket in Kalihi had pokes with ginger very ono loa. Emjays got taken over by Foodland. Foodland ahi poke now no more ginger. Kaneda's Japanese Delicatessen had ono ahi pokes with ginger plain & shoyu kind.

Aloha as a offshore local fisherman I would like to point out that all "gased" colored ahi is imported also!!! the USA bans the practice but lets other countries export into the usa!! 90% of hawaii ahi and seafood is imported from mostly china, japan , phillipines its really hard to get real local caught seafood sadly.... mahalo

I’m not even local and you’re eating the opihi wrong. You gotta get an empty opihi shell and use that to scrape the meat out and it doubles as a spoon. Love Tamashiro. We went there three times in 2019, and the third time was on our way back home to the airport. Best airline food we’ve ever had.

Lately my go to Poke has been Kona Kampachi Poke from KTA on the B.I... Only $11.99 a pound for Fresh Fish..U can get it as a Limu Poke or With Spicy Mayo ...Im a Low Sodium Aloha Shoyu kine of person..lol

whoa! I have to pay a lot for tako poke up here at Aloha Fresh in San Jose, CA, $25 a lb. It's made by someone from Hawaii, not one of those fake poke bowl places that are all over California. Someone on a Hawaii Facebook page paid $36/lb in San Mateo, CA for tako poke. And you guys are paying $21/lb for premium octopus. For me, any poke from Hawaii is my choice. As for shoyu, I'm team Aloha Shoyu. I used to use Kikkoman for cooking, but ran out of it one time and used Aloha to make shoyu chicken. What a difference, never buying Kikkoman ever again. Honey Furikake? And furikake topping on ice cream? WTH? Have you tried either one?

There is tako and tako. Fresh caught cleaned with rock salt and then grilled,so ono. Then what you ate,prepared and very edible. In Greece I had tako “cooked” in citrus juice and olive oil, also delicious. Then I had almost raw tako…at a wedding reception in Lihue which I will not go into. Raw is not good.
