Yup love this stuff we called it mustard pickles where I am from I make some every year. But we have bigger bits in it. But very much the same. I love it.and I like your addition of dates for a bit of sweetness This made me smile and want a tasty poo. Thanks for sharing ! ❤️

I use dates or prunes often to help with sweetness instead of adding sugar. Thanks for watching.

That looks delicious. It's pretty different to what I'm used to seeing called piccalilli in the USA, (although that's still a vegetable relish).

I’m curious why you didn’t process in boiling water to seal the jars? Is that not necessary with this? Thanks!
@Amandafusion1Ай бұрын
Thats a great question , It depends on the jars you are using and how long you are keeping it. I usually make this on demand so on use oven or boiling water to clean jars not to seal them. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching. Amanda

Why do we put the vegetables in salt for Piccalilli but not for Branston? After all, the vegetables in Branston are also quite crunchy too, aren't they? I am tempted to just put the veg in as they are and not cook as long. What do you think?
@Amandafusion12 ай бұрын
This is a great question and I had the same. My understanding is that it allows the vegetables to be slightly more crunchy in the piccalilli. I have always done it like this because I like the final texture of both and they are slightly different. Im not sure if that helps but let me know how it goes. Thank you as I am interested.

Could I make a sugar free version using just dates or perhaps maple syrup?
@Amandafusion15 ай бұрын
Yes , I can not see why not. Dates or Prunes, just make sure to taste as you go.
@cassieoz17024 ай бұрын
Dates and prunes are just sugar. I add very little sugar anyway (personal taste) but there's enough acidity in this to maintain preservation if you use a sugar substitute. For long term shelf storage with a sugar sub, you may want to water bath the end product

Piccalilli and ham sandwich is my favourite thing, I don't think most of the jars I buy have carrots in them, and If I made it I think I would leave them out.. But anyway yours looks amazing. I checked the jar I am using now, it only has silverskin onion, cauliflower and gherkin.. for me that is the perfect combo, not dismissing yours of course.
@Amandafusion12 ай бұрын
Yes I think you are right, A famous Brand does not have them in , well I did not see in their ingredient list but I once had a brand with some in and thought they added to the flavour so added them in. I think the added flavour is minimal so feel free to leave them out. Thanks so much for saying Hi, really appreciate it, Have a nice weekend. Amanda
