hi dr Amanda, may i know how do Big 4 connections work ? e.g Do Big 4 China need to report to headquarters? Do these Big 4 all over the wolrd works like a "franchise"

Hey Sylvester! Great question - franchise is a pretty good idea. For most of them - each country’s firm belongs to an area network (eg Asia Pacific, Americas, Europe) and then each network sends representatives to be on a central executive board that oversees all of it.

The People’s Republic of China is not on the IFIAR list of members and they do NOT have independent oversight of audit firms and audits. IFAC has a really neat summary of the regulatory situation for accounting and auditing here - www.ifac.org/about-ifac/membership/profile/china
