The Castrol oil isn't needed that's only if you want it to he shiny and not matte. You can also use coconut oil instead since you can usually find that easier.

No it's not toxic coz sometimes people eat crayons(babies) so they make it non toxic so it is usable for children (yes I've eat it before when I was small and I'm fine nothing happened) so it's completely safe

You could try, but I'm not sure how well that would work. It might make the colors very translucent. I'd try sticking with another natural butter such as maybe mango butter or something along those lines.

You could try using olive oil or vegetable oil as a replacement for castor oil. For a replacement for shea butter, I'd stick with something in the natural butter family. For example, if you found coconut butter or something along those lines, I'd use that.

The purple and blue are fab! I looooove purple lippies. But if you want them to be not so sheer/glossy. Just use coconut oil only in the formula. You get the lipstick consistency and the moisture without allllll the oils and the dilution of the color :)
@AmandaNicoleDIY11 жыл бұрын
We had that some problem. I suggest using cold water so it hardens and then a sponge with an exfoliating side on it.

I honestly can't quite remember what pack/crayons I used. All I remember is it was like a fruit themed box. We also bought a box of the original 8 colors which for some reason didn't come with black or brown. "You Blue It" I believe is just blue, "Rediculous" is just red, and "Orange You Glad We Didn't Say Banana" is just orange. The other colored crayons I believe had some sort of fancy name.

You could try. I haven't tried it so I don't know how it will come out.

Actually, they've found lead in a large majority of popular commercial lipsticks. It's not necessarily about saving money. It's just a safe alternative to brand names so you know what's in it. Crayola crayons contain only paraffin wax and natural pigments which not only makes it safe (commercial lipsticks contain these very same ingredients as well) but the colors actually come out brighter and more defined. Crayons are made with the knowledge kids are likely to eat them and so are nontoxic.
@sesshomarulover010311 жыл бұрын
If you want them to be darker just change the amount of ingredients. Such as use a full crayon and only half a teaspoon of the shea butter and the castor oil. The pigments will come out darker, and the opposite if you want them lighter.

What color u use? Like the pink could be carnation pink then the red could be the red color?
@AmandaNicoleDIY11 жыл бұрын
To answer your other post asking about the safety of this project, yes it is absolutely safe if you use the Crayola. People on here keep posting stuff saying it's unsafe and just grabbing facts off the internet just to scare people. The thing that people fail to understand is that's what the media does. They try to scare people with false facts. Just a little factual information but Crayola crayons contain paraffin wax just like normal lipstick does, but what crayons don't have like drugstore lipstick does is all those harsh chemicals. That's why crayon lipstick is pretty ideal to try out. Lastly, if I tried the crayon lipstick and am fine today, I honestly wouldn't worry about it unless you have a certain allergy to any of the ingredients used. Just wanted to clear that up. Hope this helps! (:

I watched another tutorial on how to do this, but I used extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. It made my lips soft and smooth. The colors were pretty, but it didn't come up on my lips. I might swap out the olive oil and try shea butter to see what happens. Didn't think to give them names though.
@AmandaNicoleDIY11 жыл бұрын
Yea, olive oil is good to use for moisture purposes but I've heard that it kinda cancels out the pigment of the "lipstick." Also, it might be the matter of fact two oils were used instead of one. We were just being silly giving them names but it definitely is fun to do so.
@brookedunlap471011 жыл бұрын
Yeah I should have known seeing as your not supposed to put olive oil in your hair after dying it. The names were cute though. I'll name mines on the next batch maybe.

you only need castor oil if you want your lipstick to be shiny. you can always use coconut oil too instead of shea butter
@AmandaNicoleDIY11 жыл бұрын
You could, but I don't think the colors will come out as pigmented.
@SaintAstra11 жыл бұрын
I've never tried it, so I don't know. Making a white lipstick and then applying the colors over it would help, or white eyeliner used only for lips would work so it's not too gloppy with multiple layers.

can you add essential oils to make them smell/taste good? Like a citrus scent or minty scent? Just wondering if it would alter the formula. Thanks!
@AmandaNicoleDIY11 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you could, you just have to be careful with essential oils due to allergic reactions and they are extremely potent when it comes to smell. The oils definitely won't make it taste good, just smell nice.

Some didn't come out as pigmented or bright as you expected cause of that oil you used. It was too oily for the colors to show the actual brightness. Next time just use some coconut oil. It works fabulous and any color you pick will be very bright!
