I use these strategies as a first year teacher in 6th grade six and they work exceptionally well. I'm glad to know that I am on track. Thanks for sharing!

That is fantastic. I am about to start my first year teaching and have also been assigned 6th grade. I have been getting nervous about my classroom management skills.

Great Ideas! I love it! All of the kids do all of the jobs. I pick two people everyday with lanyards. Some students that you wouldn't expect can make things happen. They aren't allowed to say no and they love it! It works!

@@amandaros3Hi by chance, do you compensate students that sign up for a job ?
@amandaros311 ай бұрын
@@stacyr4768 I do not....the job is a reward in itself lol it's something that they really want to do and take the responsibility to seriously.

My classes (I was a teacher, but was not in charge of assigning them these) had cleaning jobs for the classroom for the end of the day. Everyone was assigned different things to clean (usually two per job) and one "checker" to make sure everyone did their job. The 5th grade class though also had jobs like what you were talking about and they did cleaners and checkers too, but also line leader and some area organizers. Idk, those didn't seem like they would have vibed as well with my 8th graders.

I taught 5th last year and am making the move to 3rd this year. What advice and wisdom can you pass along to a novice teacher? I'm excited yet nervous. My primary objective is to get to know the students and build a structured classroom through procedures that runs on respect.

Loved the video! Thanks for the awesome tips ☺ Do you incentivize the student jobs?
@amandaros3 Жыл бұрын
Hi! I do not incentives the jobs. I think for middle school, they are just so excited to be apart of something and feel like they are contributing to the class. I just make it clear that when they apply, academics and behavior are taken into account.

@@steffileitao821 Definitely, consistency is key. Mean what you say, don;t make empty threats. If you say you're going to call home or move seats or whatever, if the student breaks the rules, even as annoying as it is, you have to follow through. I like to explain that the rules are there to create a safe environment for all students and for everyone to be mindful that we all learn and feel safe in different environments. Also, having rigorous expectations also help with the structure of the classroom. There''s not time for playing around or talking if all the time in the classroom is accounted for.
