OK, now I've listened this dozens of times (I had to learn the bass line and the guitar chords) and this is the most beautiful duet I've heard in years. Everything about this record is breathtaking and flawless. I'll say this; note that Amanda is on a non major record label, and Maren is on Sony; if this record doesn't get nominated for all kinds of awards this year, it's simply because of that. If it doesn't, you can go ahead and confirm your suspicions that the awards shows in Nashville are like the Oscars, bought and paid for by the major labels. If Amanda was on Sony, it would compete for song of the year, & Amanda would be nominated for Female Vocalist. I'm dying to see how great a record on a non major label has to be not to be ignored by mainstream country.

💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 I have a theory that Amanda made this record to expose that sad truth. As an independent contractor who strives set myself apart from others in the industry without the backing of a large “well known company”… I can respect the hell out of what Shires is doing here.

I can't sing, dance or play or note, but I know a good voice when I hear one. All the tracks on the record/album (whichever way you describe it) are superb - the music, the lyrics, but the voice, oh the voice. Grammy for best album (not just in the country category) and best vocalist are a must.

I love when an artist will put the lyric’s to the song on a video from her personal channel. It just gets me when I’m, and you guy’s too I bet, trying to sing along and there are word’s left out or added, when the artist is singing. In this song there were a few of those plus a whole part of the chorus at the end. I’m not trying to learn the song to do a remix or even for karaoke but for my own pleasure and singing in the car. I doubt these artists put the lyrics on there personally and probably don’t have whomever is to do this, but it is frustrating. I know, no big deal, just a per peeve. Because after all they did provide the lyrics to begin with. Love this song, and will definitely buy the vinyl just because of IT! If you’re interested find the complete lyrics as sung in the video. You were looking away towards the trees There was a time you used to listen closer to me As close as the air is to the sea So close I could feel you breathe How we got here I’d say quietly As quietly as those same trees grew to shade One day at a time and further away Further and further and further away My hands are two empty cups Maybe I was asking for a little too much To keep the newness from wearing off For every start there’s gonna be a stop You’re leaving now through the hole of an argument I guess for awhile you've been looking for the exit You slammed the door so hard I still hear rattling spoons The sound of silence rings in every room That last talk left me a makeup rainbow of tears Turned everything blurry I can’t see a thing from here And I tried so hard to make myself clear Life can’t help but interfere You used to lean in like I was whispering Any excuse to get near again And I still miss the way you lean in What happened between now and then? My hands are two empty cups Maybe I was asking for a little too much To keep the newness from wearing off For every start there’s gonna be a stop I was always a sucker for your wrist at my cheek There was a time when I was your everything And I tried so hard to make myself clear Some how life interfered You used to lean in like I was whispering Any excuse to get near again And I still miss the way you lean in What happened between now and then? My hands are two empty cups Maybe I was asking for a little too much To keep the newness from wearing off For every start there’s gonna be a stop

Beautiful song. It must be difficult at times for two great song writers to be married to each other. Could these very vulnerable lyrics be a coded (or not so coded) message to their mate? What was Jason's first reaction when she shared that song to him for the first time? We may never know that answer, nor perhaps should we ever know. Keep the great music coming; we all need it.
@Jaerb42 жыл бұрын
From the recent NYTimes article, it's definitely a not-so-coded message. But it sounds like they're still happily together and working on things, which is how all marriages should be. When he heard Fault Lines, he thought this: "When Isbell heard a demo of “Fault Lines,” he said, “the first thing I noticed was that it’s a very good song. Rule No. 1 with us is, if the song’s good, it goes on the record. Everything else, we’ll figure out.” "

I knew then when you put your hand in mine. That Love takes Time. How did I know it came around again put your noose around my neck and it happens back then. I was tough and I was blind. I never gave up on our precious love. All I can wish for is the stars with c. What your love has done to me. I'm still waiting for a magician to reappear. My delusions are clear. What love has to offer me I don't know. If I could fix things I would. Go back in time my memory binds me here. I still feel comfortable in a warm embrace. The memories I cannot erase.
