It's simple, Cooper was paying for everything. They used his house for the kids, he funded all the utilities and necessities for the home, paid for the live in nanny, most likely was paying spousal support if not temporary child support as well, he was paying for anything the kids needed (there's no way Hudson wasn't in a private school) he paid for her grad program, and possibly had to pay (in part at least) for her apartmen. So yeah, it would be esay for her to afford her lifestyle and not have to work.

Housewife porn. Fulfilling fantasies of middle aged women. "The guy who would show how much he loves me even if it embarrasses him in front of his boss. Stop me if you've heard this exact plotline before: Writer introduces the MC and her partner who is, for all intents and purposes, a super chill loving dude whose only "crime" is being vanilla. Oh what's this? It's a Bad Boy with a loose understanding of boundaries and consent! Wow writer, what will you do to create meaningful drama here? Will you have the MC grapple with these emotions, have her discuss her feelings with her husband and let them explore different sexual experiences (maybe even a threesome/polyamory)? No? What's that? You're going to turn the partner into a one dimensional creep/abuser so the MC can have guilt-free sex with someone else? So groundbreaking.

what irritates me the most is the fact that all the romance portrayed in this show/book series revolves around sex. To them sex is Love. Billie only recalled sex with Brad...claiming it was love, then Sash...all the flashbacks with that doctor or whatever were banging n shit they did back then... nothing to scream love/romance. Yet they slept with countless men lol.. okay, maybe sexual compatibility is love and a guarantee to successful marriage huh? Me don't know.
@inferiorinferno8859
@inferiorinferno8859 Жыл бұрын
Precisely. Unless both are asexual, a couple's sexual compatibility is an important part because of how it's connected to a couple's chemistry and emotional needs, but it's just one of the factors in compatibility. Personality, lifestyle, etc, are also just as important as sexual compatibility. Like, just from an astrological example: Opposing zodiac signs, as the zodiacs are placed in a wheel. Like the 12 and 6 oppose each other on a clock, so goes for zodiacs. Opposing signs usually have great sexual compatibility, but there are some who are basically two sides of the same coin and make for a great couple long-term like cancer and capricorn and some who are too different from each other in their personalities & values and usually only make for good one night stands like a fling between an aquarius and a leo.

It is honestly frustrating. And it's a bit of a different subject,but as someone under the aroace spectrum it is so damn annoying. I am tired of sex and love been portrayed as the same thing when they couldn't be more different. Sure I guess for some it's natural to expect a marriage to come alongside a certain quantity and even quality of a sex life but the way this show makes things is just so... Ugh
@kelupthegnome2871
@kelupthegnome2871 Жыл бұрын
No, sex is not an indicator of love. Just look at hook up culture, prostitution, and people having one night stands, and you'll know what I mean. None of those situations have anything to do with love. Sex is not a forn of intimacy either. It can, however, be an act born of intimacy. Your emotions and mindset can influence the sex you're having. As an example for this show. Billie has separated Cooper from that side of herself to such an extent that she can't really enjoy sex with him. When the trouble between them, she jumps to cheating is the only answer. I mean, she literally considered no other options. On a personal note, my wife and i have no expectations of what sex means. Therefore, we can simply enjoy it without unnecessary pressure added to it.

I’m ace, so I really don’t understand it that much. But I do think sex is important for most couples, but you’re totally right, it never should be as important as emotional compatibility. And to equal sex = love is just dangerous for real life relationships, because it can grow into objectification and sexualization real quick, which shouldn’t have a place in relationships. Loving sex with someone doesn’t mean you love them, it’s just a dangerous implication tbh

The hubby finds out by reading her journal, then he tries to imitate the wild sex she had with her ex. Neither one of them are being who they really are. Season 2: she’s divorcing her hubby & tries to be with her ex but he moved on after she didn’t accept his proposal in season 1. She gets another bf who she can be wild with but can’t be a mom. They don’t work out. Her ex-bf doesn’t work out with his new woman. Main lady & her original ex end up together. Ex hubby and his ex get back together. They all live happily ever after. The end.

I kind of agree kind of don't. Like people cheat only because they learn that it is ok and that they genuinely feel that they aren't doing anything wrong by doing it. Usually they learn this is childhood when either their mom/dad have an affair or if they are in a single parent household and continuously see a change in partners. They grow to believe that there is no love in stability and thus they become bored when they are in a stable relationship and feel there is no thrill or adventure. Now I'm not saying all people who have had these parents end up this way, but sometimes the opposite can happen. Sometimes the person who had cheating parents can get married or be in a relationship with a cheater. In psychology it's very common to see that whatever behavior parents uphold in front of their kids, that becomes the standard in that kids future relationships. This is why therapy is so important. Because what u do to ur kid in childhood , it can make that kids personality. And this is why I feel people start having these kinds of fetish. I'm not saying all trauma or all fetish stems from childhood, but the ones that stick around have been conditioned when we were kids. This is not just for cheating fetish, its all kinds of fetish that are not mentally healthy. Fetishes like Consensual Non-Consent should be considered as a form of trauma response because it's so mentally unhealthy to fantasize about rape

@@lastquarter3992 To be fair, a lot of material with this kink also includes the committed partner getting off on the cheating too (which iirc happened in s1 of the show). From a storytelling standpoint, this show made no sense. I don't know about female empowerment, I would assume this isn't it, but it usually comes from seeing someone falling and climbing their way back up. For a show like this, I would say it would have been. Billie screws up her marriage and then goes through hell to realize what she actually had and win back the guy who actually treated her right. No, i don't claim to be an expert writer, so I have no idea if that would be empowering or not. But even I know inspiration comes from seeing something that can come true, not from fictional situations that can't.

THE WORST PART for me... as a man... was on the very last episode. Brad leaves his own son and Gigi for Billie.... WHAAAAAAAAT!? You mean to tell me that that sob story about getting to know his own father didn't mean anything and was utterly useless? Seeing as he DID THE EXACT SAME FUCKING thing to his son. What the hell is wrong writers?? It's as if kids do not exist in their worlds or at least are just there to be plot devices. Let me tell you as a young boy growing with divorced parents... DIVORCE is terrible. It's ALWAYS traumatic, and it's NEVER empowering for kids. Billie's son Hudson is going to have it rough, getting used to continous new step-fathers. Gigi's son with Brad... he's going to get it even worse.

@goodninja3 I don't make a habit of defending the character of Brad or this poorly written story, but he told Billie the Gigi left him some time after he lost his company. You can also see his son at their wedding, so he didn't just dip out on the boy. In fact, they indicate that she left because he lost his company. The truth is the whole situation was pure plot convince. They needed Brad to be free for Billie to be happy. This whole series was full of telling and not showing. We never see Brad struggle with letting go of Billie in a meaningful way. He never reached out to her, and even at the park, he's more just being cordial than acting like he's pinyin away for her. As an aside, there's no evidence he ever went to see his dad.

As someone who went through a very bad parental separation at a young age, I just want to say thank you for this review. I've never been the "think of the children" type of person, but seriously, the writers really dropped the ball on the "family" aspect of this show. Yes... I know the show is called "Sex Life", but that's no excuse to use Billie's son as a plot device for some lame-ass deluded story. The children are basically door mats to these characters... and if anyone is wondering what will happen to Billie's kids in the future... I know from personal experience that there are emotional scars that can never be healed. Questions that I as a kid were too afraid to ask... and much too angry when I was finally given an answer. I feel validated knowing that I was not the only one, who saw just how terrible of a character Billie was. The only way a Season 3 could have the potential of having a believable plot... is for Billie to have her son be her reckoning. Hell perhaps even Brad's "forgotten" son with Gigi (Ironic...given his father's own story in Season 1). They would be the "consequence" of their actions and would only have themselves to blame if he or she starts acting out... after all... in the case of Hudson... his mum is a famous sex writer, who divorced her once-honest turned sleazy husband for a rich random restaurant owner, only to go back to her cheating bad ex-boyfriend because they have amazing wild romps. Perfect Family. 100% suitable for a teenage boy

Thank you for your service. I never finished S1and I sure as hell won't be subjecting myself to S2. As soon as I realized that they were going to villainize Cooper to justify the shit Billie was about to do (which was glaringly obvious from Ep1), I threw in the towel. God forbid we get a real story about internalized conflict, the mental/emotional constraints of societal gender roles, lack of communication in a relationship, etc. No, let's just make it all about sex. Because sex is such tried and true cure for all that ails you. It's actually really sad to see how far down they dragged Cooper, and then just tidied everything up at the last second. But I guess they knew the nail was in the coffin, probably by the end of S1, so they decided to write as big of a dumpster fire as possible.

Netflix recommended this recently to me bc season two just launched and I watched Season 1 in one sitting one night. What I found was 1. Billie describing how adventurous her life used to be and then just seeing it consist of boring flings (sex SO spiceless, damn) in boring clubs 2. The aching absence of spice and chemistry in the sex scenes with "Brad" and how bad his acting/delivery in every scene he was in was 3. Billie always engaging with "Brad's" problems and past conflicts instead of adressing his inappropriate, inexcusably cruel behavior shown towards her in the present... a shitty past is no excuse to treat people like shit and I didn't see her call him out for it ONCE.

i'm just a bachelors in psych but I was so surprised at why a psychology doctoral candidate is getting into a relationship with the intention of fixing a clearly emotionally immature person with unresolved family issues. They showed Brad to be self-aware with all the "i've been to enough shrinks" and "don't you think i already know what to do about my dad issue"... but then he did nothing productive from that self-awareness and insight. Any mentally healthy psych student knows that you can't push people to fix their issues and that as a psychologist or whatever she was aiming to be with the PhD.. She just knew better than to be involved with someone like that.. just because of the sex or the fact that she felt special that she's the only one who knew him so deeply. That's the stuff a 15 year old girl melts over, not a grown woman in a PhD program.

This series need a sequel. With different writers and set the plot round 15 years later about the kids being smart enough to see how awful these adults are and doing their best to cut every ties with their horrible parents and anyone who had anything to do with them. The happy end should be how miserable their life turned out to be as consequence for their past actions also facing the fact that their kids are happy and much better people then they are because they finally got rid of them.

Season two was a shit show. The writers completely abandon the plot from season one in order to polish Billy’s reputation. But the best way they thought to do that was to tarnish Coopers None of season two made any sense to me. Season one showed Billie as a sex starved groupie, who found peace and harmony by marrying Cooper. She then went on to deliberately destroy Cooper because she just couldn’t bear the thought of another night without Brad. really? I’m just glad it ended. It was just not that good.

Because Sarah and Adam are together in real life, that's why. They left their real-life relationship influence the characters. In the show reason, Billie is just a liar and is very selfish, and it's always been about brad. A possible explanation is that Billie is having an affair, mostly emotional, and is trapped in the proverbial affair fog, isn't even thinking clearly and trying to convince herself that's not what was happening.

@kelupthegnome2871 Жыл бұрын
I don't disagree with you about emotional cheating. It really is bad, and more than that, it can form without a person noticing it. However, what we see in season 1 wasn't just emotional cheating. It was a full-on affair. An emotional affair is just that, an affair that takes place on an emotional level. In fact, an emotional affair may never even turn sexual. But once it does, it stops being an emotional affair. It turned sexual the night she took his call while he was having sex with Sasha and used it to please herself, by failing to hang up on him when he starts taking his pants off during the second video call. When she actively arranged a situation to lie to her husband to hide her activities, when the very next day she arranged to meet Brad and go on what was effectively a date. Last but not least. When she went to his place (pre retcon) for the purpose of having sex with him I'll be honest I don't like double standards. So I find it funny that so many people down grade het actions to just having an emotional affair, when we all know if it was Cooper doing half of what she did we wouldn't draw that same conclusion. .it's not that she didn't physically cheat on Cooper it's that she got stopped from having sex with brad twice. He intentions were clear.
