He's half right. Trump actually had two million less votes than he did in 2020. The bigger problem is that Kamala had 12 million less votes than Biden in 2020. Had she had the same amount of votes as Biden, she would've won in a big way. Kamala had everything running against her like Biden's current unpopularity, amnesia over Trump's first term, Trump never being called out for being a grotesquely wretched liar and criminal, etc. Plus, Americans are too comfortable, we haven't seen true chaos and uncertainty where the country can possible morph into a dictatorship. It's very likely to occur if we're complacent and let Trump be Trump.
@annieothernameАй бұрын
I agree. I know many are reviewing the lack of votes - 2016,2020 were categorically MASSIVE turnouts that I think folks assumed would be the norm. People went back to not voting, and Harris lost in-roads in key strongholds for democrats. The democrats will have to confront how they’ve disconnected with their base. My main concern is that folks have rightly called Trump an authoritarian. Democratically elected. What actions from a Trump admin will be enough to spear a response, and would there be a duty to respond? I think we may sleep walk ourselves into surreal acts

Trump has media platforms which completely overwhelm the mainstream networks at this point. 70 million views of Rogan interviews with Trump/Vance/Musk just on KZbin happened within the last week of the election - I am pretty certain they swayed the results across the nation, because their reach would have been about twice that number, or more with other streaming and right wing amplification. Democrats have nothing even vaguely equivalent. It is not really a fair election when propaganda completely overpowers the truth; and there is palpable fear. The next election will be much more difficult. We need to prepare to uphold the Constitution and the provisions and rights it stands for. Freedom of the press; and fairness in our justice system will be crucial, along with many other concerns.

And what people actually heard was "having too many new immigrants at once is a threat to our way of life". That was the *real* message. I'm a liberal (center-left) who couldn't get a room at my favorite hotel in Boston because the entire property has been leased to the state to house Haitians. First-world inconvenience, but because of the weirdness of how the staff told me I could "book" a reservation that I could not *actually* have made me upset at the beneficiaries. Something that like would easily push the center-right voter to support whoever the GOP candidate was.

I remember listening to the Run Up many times, while I was walking or while I was in bed. And I recall Astead pushing Democratic guests on Biden's age and mental faculties. And this was before the whole debate debacle. He saw a problem from miles away, and he was right to be skeptical of these guests. Biden staying could've led to a Reagan-style win, so while Kamala still lost, she blunted the worst of it.

I think it's interesting that you're not more concerned about the guy who emacted the Muslim ban and wants to round up illegal aliens. That's not just Latinos. Pennsylvania is a midwestern state? Trump only got 20% of the vote in Philadelphia. Sounds low, but it was historically high, which meant Harris couldn't make up for losses in rural PA. And it included 24% of black men. In Pittsburgh voter turnout was low. Another problem. In the Philly suburbs, about a week before the election, a friend noticed a lot of Trump signs, something he hadn't seen in 2020. He voted for Harris early, but said he thought Trump would win. Anecdotal, sure, but local knowledge matters. Better than most pollsters. That said, overall the NYT did a good job at the technical level in reporting the results. Better than their actual reporting and post-mortem analysis. Finally Trump reminded me of JFK. Trump's speech on election night was certainly rambling. He spent a lot of time talking about Musk's rocket landing. I'm thinking, why? I hadn't seen it. A Harris voter friend, said he had, that it was amazing, and that Musk was a genius. Given widespread institutional failure, it reminded me of the space program I watched as a kid and JFK. A kind of seat of the pants optimism. We have deep problems. To get out of them, to rebuild the industrial base, train or retrain workers, it's gonna take people who can actually do something. Not political apparatchiks. That was the importance of Musk and the Silicon Valley bros. I like the Taylor Swift music I've heard, but convincing a lot of teenage girls you're special, building a brand, isn't remotely similar to actually doing something.

It would be interesting to discover how many people on both sides switched their vote from four years ago and also the breakdown of the people who voted four years ago but decided to sit this one out and their reasoning.

Im not sure why this country can not vote to have women be President And im not saying everyone but lots. I've been vomiting for President since 1984 back then i cast my first vote for Vise President Walter Mondale and since And he lost badly and since then I've seen a lot of men be President and the two women who ran for ran for President in 2016 and 2024 and the those two women i voted for. I think eather of those to women could have done a better job than any of the men i have seen for President so far and i a man. I was not happy when they kiind of forced President Biden of the campaign this and hesitant about Harris running but i think she groue in to it and did good job and would have made a great President. Finally im very disappointed how lots of Americans and all would let that kreep of a men back in office!
@animula6908Ай бұрын
See at least you admit it. You are glad they forced in a candidate no one asked for at the last second, and you’re upset that people are allowed not to vote for anyone who is a woman. That’s really the whole vibe of the Democrat party circa 2024, and that spirit behind it helped drive some voters away. Especially those who supported Bernie in 2020. People get tired of having everything decided for them by someone bigger than them. No blame on you, because you’re just the one innocent enough to say it out loud.

My understanding is that 14 million less people voted for Kamala Harris in 2020, than 2024 for Joe Biden, while 2 million less voted for Trump in 2024 than 2020. So either I'm mistaken or this guy saying that turnout wasn't the problem is a fool or liar.
@godislove544Ай бұрын
Biden got 8 million more votes, and now its said trump has 5 million more than Harris, and many republicans said they were not going to vote for him again after Jan. 6 etc, so, we are supposed to believe that he somehow got 13 or 14 million new voters all of the sudden. It is not logical.
@CalmClamFamАй бұрын
He’s saying that there’s more to it than voter turnout
@SevenFootPelicanАй бұрын
Yeah, but if we're talking 14 million less voters. It's not really "voter turnout". With changes that high just between 1 election cycle, it's safe to say that those voters INTENTIONALLY stayed home. It's not that they were unable to make it to the polls.
@annieothernameАй бұрын
As other comments mention, it’s that people were willing to change party. It wasn’t apathy, it wasn’t turn out. Of those who turned out, Harris lost major inroads in essentially every key democratic strongholds. They showed up. But they did not show up for her.
@sandal_thong8631Ай бұрын
@@SevenFootPelican That is the definition of voter turnout: these people didn't show up and didn't vote for Trump, Jill Stein or leave president blank, as far as I know. If that had happened, they might have voted down-ballot for governor, senator, representative.
