This. Exactly this. If Democrats spend the next four years trying to find another way to say the same thing to the same people , they will end up with the same result. Somewhere along the way, the party stopped being seen by those on the lowest incomes with the biggest struggles as their natural representatives. Those people were less interesting to the party than the culture wars, a blind embrace of immigration and the safety of the middle classes. When they did speak to those struggling in small towns across America it either came across as a lecture on values, or as gas lighting about how the economy is actually great now if only they would take the politician's word for it and not their own experience of trying to buy food and other goods.

This identity politics turns off rural America which is mostly white and hispanic... While urban city slickers may live in sanctuary cities that can find and pay for thousands of $400 per night hotel rooms, the small border towns like Eagle Pass with a population of 35 thousand do not have 15 thousand extra sleeping bags for the illegal immigrants sleeping and camping under the border bridge. Nor does Eagle Pass have the housing, hospitals, schools, and JOBS. Eagle Pass does not have any Amtrak train services, civilian airline services, or Greyhound bus services. The state of Texas had to CHARTER buses to transport the illegal asylum seekers to sanctuary cites of their choice. Nearly all of those 25 DARK BLUE South Texas counties FLIPPED RED this year, something Starr County had not done since 1892. Not 1992, 1892... And the few that didn't are now LIGHT BLUE, not DARK BLUE... Biden's and Harris' idiotic OPEN BORDER turned TEXAS MORE RED... Texas should be demanding the sanctuary cities REIMBURSE the bus fares...

But because of PSA, I found my calling. At the moment it doesn’t feel like it is because I lost my race, but I’m not giving up. And supporters of mine have asked me to not give up. The thing I’ve been grappling with the last 24 hours is how so many fellow Americans voted against good. My heart and soul are too invested in politics and the progressive movement to back down now. So PSA guys, you made a difference in my life. You got me to run, and you inspired me and I did something I never imagined I could do. And I in turn inspired many other people. It amazes me how disconnected this podcast is with the economic reality of everyday americans. For years the Biden administration has been parroting the lines of the public "thinking" it's a bad economy when it "isn't". The poll of "wrong track" doesn't capture the direness of the economic situation for many. Biden and Kamala did not speak to the economic frustration and anger people experience. Younger generations are not able to afford rent, let alone own a home or start a family. I think a lot of voters would forgive inflation if there seemed to be a general understanding from the dems of the seriousness of economic inequality. Bernie ignited so many supporters, and now dems are losing young men to Trump...

As an independent, my key takeaway from this podcast is how out of touch they are (and by extension the messaging of the Democratic Party). You hit the nail on the head regarding the economic situation, as everyday goods have risen 40%, yet COVID was over 2 years ago. Also, in my opinion, Harris wasn’t a compelling candidate for a lot of undecided voters. For a lot of people that I have spoken to, one of their biggest gripes about Harris was that she didn’t do enough to differentiate herself from the Biden administration. This isn’t to mention the classism in the rhetoric by young members on the left, as “uneducated” (working class, in reality) voters were abandoned and even demonized. I also think that Democrats rely too heavily on identity politics, and it is important to realize that no amount of social policy will promote economic recovery. I am from Michigan, where Harris lost by about 100-150k votes. In Michigan, a large proportion of the Muslim community (over 300k people) viewed Harris as an extension of the Pro-Israel policies of the Biden administration, and she lost the state because of it imo. Again you are right imo to mention Bernie, as his analysis on the election seemed to be true regarding the weaknesses of the Democratic Party.

1. Trump stopped a bill that would have secured the border so he could campaign on it. 2. Crime decreased under the Biden administration. 3. The economy is steadily going up, inflation rates are now about the same as under trump, we've added more jobs to the economy than any period in the last 50 years. Of course things weren't perfect, Biden had to handle a polarized nation and a world-changing pandemic. But saying the administration was unsuccessful is intellectual dishonesty.

Yeah, the Pod during the election felt to me like an establishment echo chamber, and their sudden U-turn on Biden after the debate was proof that they're insulating themselves with condescending phrases like "resistance libs." Tim Walz was great for the folksy edge, and celebrities are whatever, but the fact that Katie Porter gave up her Congress seat to run for Senate and lost should have been a moment for the Harris campaign to bring her in. Put her on stage for the people who want to hear concrete policies about economic improvement. I guess the problem would be that Porter's vision would scare away donors and apparently raising a billion dollars to run the campaign is more important than winning it.

They were undermined in the 11th hour last election (which is never addressed) and many have either dropped out of paying attention to politics or started to listen to the other side. They bypassed the rules, conspiring to rig the prez nomination for Queen Hillary. Even Obama piled on: remember when Bernie was asked to "visit" the White House? Timing does count. The contest between a man of character and ideas (Bernie) squared off against a cynical pseudo-rich (non)reality show host without any ideas (tRump) -- would have gone well for Dems in 2016 I M H O. (The Dem pros obviously thought otherwise.) Covid alone should have eliminated tRump now, in 2024. I guess (as a '55 white BB) that America really has a racist, less-than-intelligent populace. I'm sorry but that's just how a big tent works. people on the far left are going to have to accept that fact and the liberal party isn't ever going to be a monolith that's set on making a single demographic perfectly happy. But if that's the reason they're citing for not voting and allowing Trump to win then I guess that's what I'll have to refer to from now on as why they are reliably unreliable voters. "Liz Cheney showed up to show support so I decided not to vote and let Trump win". Genius plan I'm glad everyone was so concerned about the menace that is Liz Cheney.

There was a question asked at the beginning of this pod. What is the reason why Trump won. I am in the 23% of black men who voted for Trump. I voted Obama twice, Hillary (when dems sat Bernie down 🤔), Biden, and now Trump. The reason why is simple. No primary, bad candidate, delay in policy positions, bad policy (IMO), 2A infringement, didn't exercise the 25th amendment years ago to remove Biden, very few interviews after not having a primary, identity politics, etc. VP Harris did not earn the vote of the American people and respectfully, that is on VP Harris. Democratic leadership would be better served to learn and converse with voters they lost (like me) than attack them, call them racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. That notion couldn't be further from the truth.

I heard numerous students say they skipped voting this time because they simply couldn't tell who was telling the truth. The amount of insane propaganda and false claims really just made them sit this one out. I talked to my classes today and said - "You don't vote for today, you vote for 8 years from now." (I think they finally understood why voting was so important.) After our long discussion, I came to the realization that most of them had never truly been taught about politics and personal choices. I was sort of mortified. The proliferation of false information in our country has led to this point. It's scary.
