After I read John McBeth's biography on his time as a journalist in SE Asia for 40 years I'm inclined to have little regard for Amanpour's balance and desire to seek the truth, instead she creates her own narrative and then builds a story around it.

President Trump is saving this country from Democrat/Communist WHO HAS INVESTMENTS IN CHINA??? DEMOCRATS and these so-called RINO REPUBLICANS are the ones that are CORRUPT like the BIDENS in selling out the U.S. working peoples jobs for cheap communist labor... They've been complicit in siding with CHINA and NOT the free market Democratic Capitalist Chinese of TAIWAN, that are like the US. This is the reason I've never have liked the BUSHES. They changed the course that President Reagan had on restoring trade defending and protecting TAIWAN, for the NWO GLOBALIST NOT CAPITALIST BUT IMPERIALIST. Utilizing cheap communist labor. John Kasich and others like President George Bushes are RINO/GLOBALIST/IMPERIALIST if not disguised Democrat/Socialist whose family has investments in CHINA like McCain's family, and the rest of these RINO's and Democrat/Socialist. Whom removed support of TIAWAN for NWO cheap CHINESE COMMUNIST LABOR. Grandfather Prescott Bush was a Banker for Hitler, who violated the Logan Act that and was not held accountable because of his rich really privileged political connections (Definitely an IMPERIALIST/FASCIST). They stopped the development of highly classified sea-based weapon missile systems to defend TAIWAN, in the President Reagan administration. This stared with President Carter turning our backs on TAIWAN. President Reagan tried to change it, though the NWO BUSH's stopped it. Clintons allowed the transfer of this technology to CHINA.

It clearly pointed out that Rachel Maddow is MSNBC's Sean Hannity, and gave actual and true comparisons. And if you listened above you would see that Ted sees MSNBC about the same as FOX, because that's what they have become. I used to watch MSNBC all the time until after Trump's election, who I didn't vote for, and it is no longer the same. What Ted said about Morning Joe is spot on.

Ted Koppel - what brilliant words and reflections on reporting! The era of truth (facts) has long evaporated - this legendary reporter fades into the mist of the past, as a fading memory of what honest reporting used to be .... this depth of character and dependability has been lost; question is, can it be regained? How?

I don't know. And my heart is heavy right now just thinking about it. One thing I'd like to mention is there must be multifaceted strategies for shoring up our educational system which has been nearly destroyed by extremists and incompetents who think "our way or no way" as well as "truth be damned" or "maintain oppression at all costs". Too many have been carefully taught not to think for themselves and how to behave badly out of fear and ignorance. This didn't just happen over the last three years, either. I never thought I would witness millions of Americans, 1) follow an indisputable and relentlessly self-centered liar in the Oval office, 2) appear powerless when confronted with the combative blocking of access to information in the Oval office by the brazen vilification of what's left of the free press, ..., etc. Confronting a weakened American education system is just one way, of course.

Same here, it was in my recommendations and began watching because of Ted Koppel being a journalism legend whom I’d watched regularly at one time. But I’m blown away by his insight as to how this presidency would end, absolutely prophetic. A couple of hours ago I saw Lindsey Graham’s press conference of today and he also talked to the press about taking some of the responsibility for their own role in what’s been going on - that, in addition to Trump’s guilt, the way journalism has devolved into feeding the public with one sided opinions rather than straight forward reporting has aided in bringing on events like yesterday’s.

Icke can sometimes be heard on a podcast now on LondonReal. most people are living a fantasy that we have a Gov. that cares about us and always tells the truth no matter how ridiculous something is, which is why this covid scam is happening. it is part of an agenda for us that this cult has. I have been beyond shocked at how people have been sucked in by this latest fear fest. if this doesn't stop soon, there is far worse to come which in part is the psychopath Gates' obsession to vaccinate everyone. they have only crashed the world economy right now far worse than it's ever been.

rogerwilco99, “a reasonably well educated” person would recognize that the USA is both a republic and a democracy. The strict dichotomy by certain republicans is completely false. The definition of “republic” is a political order where power lies in the hands of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them. The United States of America is that. A democracy is government of the citizenry, by the citizens themselves and exercised either directly or indirectly through elected representatives. That is also the United States of America. I would submit that the Civics you learned in school may not have been exhaustive enough to highlight the nuances between a republic and a democracy. One would have had to read more extensively for a better understanding.

I don’t mind if a journalist sides with one group for a particular story as long as they make their case and use real, objective facts. Our current President’s favorite station, Fox - which pretends to be News, seems to be allergic to facts. The President doesn’t use facts, he only eludes to facts which never appear or are manufactured. MSNBC on the other hand, has Rachel Maddow, is relentless and scrupulous about using facts. She is a treasure for the good side of America. I view President Trump as a mob boss using the powers of the Presidency. He is a tyrant, and under a different country’s Constitution and governmental infrastructure, he may have succeeded in turning us into a Nazi Germany. Thankfully, we have the ability, will, and laws to not let this happen. Now is not the time for cowards or bystanders. We must follow through to chase these complicit and “so-called” lawmakers from the right out of Office with votes too large to cheat. Stay engaged and stand up for democracy.

Dear Ted Koppel, I use to look to you as a voice of reason. I feel so depleted watching this now. It seems that ,somehow, some people have discounted the intellect of conscious Americans. Those who are able to discern the truth and decide for themselves what to believe usually resist adhering to any one soure of information especially those that support single ideologies or propagated theories. Journalism, from it's start, had it's intention set to inform the people. Good journalism does that to this day. It would be an injustic to the American people for a person of authority or cultural influence to discount any one soure or media outlet as 'fake news'. Good journalism and journalists report from reputable sources based on facts and verify each. Good journalism is unbiased indeed and only reports based on truth, pertinent information and facts not ideologies or propaganda. This has to be promoted in journalism not squelched. The people have a right to know. Let the people decide for themselves. That is our right as citizens of the free country that is the United States of America.

Good sound interview, yes. But there was one important journalistic slip though about impartiality. Koppel directed the conversation towards what would happen in case Trump looses the election and laid out his fears about how Trump would handle the inter reign and assuming that to be correct how that would, inhis opinion, lead to violence. There should have been a counter question about the scenario where Biden looses and how that would/could lead to regarding violence. His opinion in that case could very well be the exact same - that it would lead to violence. Personally I'm of the opinion that the republican followers will handle a defeat rather graciously but that a substantial the democrat followers absolutely will not. I'm just a European bystander observing your great country and your politics out of pure interest and I and many others are not blind to the frightening components on the left and to the fact that the moderate left are - or are too scared to oppose these components since they are out of control, dangerous and violent. Democrats risk to be aggressed by these fractions if calling them out for not being democrats and ask them to go found their own "Party of violence" instead of hijacking the democrats. But that ship has sailed I'm afraid. It's too risky and dangerous to try to talk sense to these extremists, especially for the democrats. That's why you don't see any condemning of their behavior from within their party.

morgan ghetti Joe is a self-avowed Republican before trump showed up. That equates to the right-wing Conservative Party in Canada. The Liberal Party here is a centrist party, with the New Democratic Party and the Bloc Quebecois generally viewed as left-wing. Our centre (Liberal) party and those further to the left would agree that fair social programs equal fairer opportunities, which then preserves the social contract. These include universal Medicare (obviously), employment insurance, paid parental leave, and Crown ownership of major utilities (power, water, etc.). That philosophy also encompasses environmental oversight and regulation, human rights, access to education, justice and housing, women's right to our own bodies, and consumer protection ( although the more left-wing parties usually work harder on these than the centrist Liberals. The Green Party is a left-wing party and of course they are the party whose strong mission is protection and restoration of the environment. The Conservative Party in Canada is the only party that comes out against gun control. Thankfully Canadians have shown ourselves to be more sensible about guns than the Conservatives would want. Joe Scarborough is a Republican by philosophy. In America, they generally prize capitalist individualism over government regulation and the collective good. Unlike the U.S., Canada was founded on the principles of 'peace, order, and good government'.
