I love how Demi didn’t pander to the host’s comments about this film and its message just being catered to women. Now that the films been out a while I’ve seen allot of people identify with allot of the anxiety, the body dysmorphia, aging etc. That can apply to anyone.
@samudramanthan864518 күн бұрын
Did you see how she holds space, with such compassion and grace? I struggle, to a terrifying degree, as I process the horror of how my skin is so crepey and sagging, as I suffer the nightmare of aging in a misogynistic world. I battle depression and anxiety as I unpack the nightmare of aging vis-à-vis systemic, structural, strategic and institutional oppression! I'm so empowered and authentic, as I hold space for womyn who suffer mental torment and turmoil as a result of judgmental insensitive comments that destroy our self esteem and brutalize us, as strong, empowered, gorgeous, so-very-intelligent and independent womyn, who boldly deploy the tools for healing, by holding space! Love Is Love! Hold Space (authentically)!

Totally agree, I think identification suits to everyone, not only women.
@V_i_vi_an14 күн бұрын
@@BrunoSantos-oy7rt I think we have, as a society, aknowledge that the preassure we put on women's "beauty" is way harsher than what we put on men. Sure, we put preassure on men ageing as well, but it's mostly on whether he's successful or not, it's more about what he has, while women who are often valued most for their looks, tend to affect the way women see ageing on them. Just look up the data regarding men and women doing plastic surgery, botox and so on, over 80% of patients and clients are women. And yes, women are participants on this preassure they put on their own gender, this is not about preaching or agendas, it's the reality of our world.

"Like nothing you’ve ever seen before". Really? Maybe for the message, but the whole body horror thing, you're absolutely wrong. Watch David Cronemberg films which Coralie heavily got inspiration from. Actually the whole movie aestehics are not new. To those who really appreciate cinema like me, we can see the director took things that already existed and created something "new", and now everybody are just "WOW". By the way, kudos to all the people involved, it's a really interesting movie and the work is well done! I really enjoyed it but it's not something we've never seen before.

My intuition told me to buy a cinema ticket to see this movie in the Curzon cinema in Soho London. I live in south coastal twin city called Brighton and Hove , East Sussex, UK now. loved the Soho cinema when I lived in London ( 2001-2006). Something told me (haha) to go for it. YES! I had amazing big screen time in a stylish Shaftesbury Avenue London gem. Took a train from Brighton Station, revisited the madness of London and Leicester Square, walked through China Town ( I bumped into Quentin Tarantino there ! in a past, no talking, but we exchanged glazes and smiles, he was wearing massive headphones and just strolling around ), got into the cinema, Screen Rooms are downstairs. Sat at the back on a comfortable two people size couch. Switched my phone off. Switched all of my senses on. And what a ride I had! Yes, the movie, it seemed ridiculous at times, especially the last gory bits of it, but overall I was glued to the screen, most of the time. I appreciate it is multidimensional. It "spoke" to me, haha. The message is strictly personal, so I won't share. Thank You! It's given me a great time and put me in sort of philosophical state of mind. Extraordinary experience

The film is as deep as it is shallow or vice versa. The message is frankly so simple, and yet so sensitive. The rigor and vigor put into the execution mouth into a fantastic grotesk finale. The gore on its way follows its own necessity of turning the screw. The most demonic elements don't hide in those scenes. The observations are highlighted and shifted out of proportion, something which is wonderfully mirrored in the superb imagery of the film. In that respect its a lovely feast for cineasts with its many quotes and analogies (quite some Kubrick, a lovely self-quotation, and an unlikely bow to Monty Python's most infamous idea). It's a masterpiece start to finish on all levels a film has to deliver. Period

Eh. My takeaway from the film was basically: "Getting old sucks, and vain old people will do anything to look young again. Also, Margaret Qualley is insanely hot. Also, this film is gross as hell and slightly funny." That's about it. Nothing profound. Nothing lifechanging. It would have been profound if Elisabeth Sparkle had quit the Substance after she saw her body turning to crap, realizing that aging is a natural process and being grateful for what she had, but nope--she just kept on going until she became a literal blob. Still vain at the very end as she puts on her earrings and straitens her strand of hair. The movie teaches nothing.
