No he is not manipulative. He is telling her what will happen if she continues to stay indecisive. Amara is an adult woman that needs to mature up and own her environment. Her mom is bitter because of what Amara’s father did to her, so she thinks she’s protecting her daughter…but really it’s her bitterness acting that way. This guy is acting like any men that value their time. He doesn’t have to be understanding because there’s nothing to understand. She just need to make a decision and stick to it. Good or bad, adults make decisions and live out the results or “consequences”. Amara needs to build a better relationship with her mom, this idea that all men are bad is not a good thing to put in your child. And even if “all men are bad”, let Amara figure that out for herself because her clock is ticking and she will not know how to pick a man if she’s constantly told that they are all bad. He and Amara’s mom are literally mirror images of each other. In some cultures, the daughter does take care of the mom until she can be on her own. I know because I’m Haitian-American and my sister and I have sacrificed our lives to take care of our mom. However, we all had a talk that it’s time for her to focus on retirement and disability and being home with the grandkids and she finally understand as I’m living my own life and my sister agreed to keep her with her instead of a nursing home. When you chose to have kids, you can’t keep reminding them all that you sacrificed for them-you chose to bring them into the world so that’s the price. But the boyfriend was a complete asshole and worse than Shay’s brother 😳. I get him being upset as any man would be-but he’s not her husband so he doesn’t get a say in these matters between her and her mother.
