Amaran 300C - Review

Will everything out the box work outdoors with no outlets? Or do I have to purchase a battery system?

You'll have to buy a battery system or purchase the Aputure 2-Bay Battery Power Station to power it off v-mount batteries.

Would you get this one or the 200X s? I'm upgrading the 100D and I'm pretty undecided.

Depends on your use. The 300 has the added color, which is nice if you want to throw up some color in the background. However, the 200 is light weight, smaller and portable. The 300 has a few more bells and whistles. Really it comes down to budget and what you need.

@@Ranger7Studios I may never need RGB, I just need as much power as it’s possible. From the stats I’ve read there’s no much difference between those two and for that reason I’m also considering the LS300

For actually shooting a short film or commercial is it worth buying 2 or do you find yourself only using 1?

I only own one. However, if you wanted to you could use two. One as a background light and one as a key. Really depends on your budget and they types of jobs.

Just got this one and the fan has a clicking sound. Is that the sound when you mentioned that "the fan is audible"? Thanks in advance

No. Sounds like there might be something wrong with you light. I would either exchange it or contact Aputure/amaran.

How long can this light be on at maximum power without overheating?

It doesn’t over heat. I’ve used it for several hours and it has not failed.
