Hey Steven-- Great video and I just subscribed. I primarily produce documentary films these days, with some occasional commercial video work. I currently own the GVM PRO SD650B, SD400B, SD200B and both a GVM 2 and 4 foot RGB tube. I am about to order the SD300C to add to my kit. I am very satisfied with the brand, although I would not recommend their cheaper line of non-Pro fixtures which I find a bit junky. I think the only thing really missing from this video (beyond the lost footage LOL) is how this unit functions with the GVM app. It literally eliminates all the fiddling around with those buttons and is completely intuitive. I've never had much problem with their connectors, even with a good bit of abuse. I agree that Aputure connectors, though, are a much beefier and satisfying build. One last comment, I rarely use these lights over 40% on most sets unless I'm trying to boost or simulate daylight through a window with the 650B. Their ability to operate with V-Mount batteries is often important, and GVM does sell an attachment that will work just fine with them. Keep making great content, Steven! I appreciate the honesty and candor.

Like I say, it may not be for me but it maybe for you. I’m glad it is working for you. Unfortunately, I had a spending limit on the review, but it good to hear that the attachments are making a difference.

Wow oh WOW! Thank you so much Steven for an authentic review! Your transparency was so relieving during the review after watching soooo many sponsored reviews. Thank you for being you!

That’s what I’m here for. ;) I’m so glad it helped you. I can’t stand it when I know that a company has hit up other creators to do a commercial for product but aren’t transparent about it. Thanks for watching!

I admire your integrity- telling it how it is. Noisy fan, no easy battery option, clunky rosette tilt adjustment, confusing menu for adjustment, iffy proprietary plug connectors, gels just at 3200 and 5600k, heavy etc for main cons. None of this came up with other (quasi sponsored GVM vs Amaran 300c) reviews. Highlights fact that buyers need to be wary of biased reviews where provider in effect took the GVM 'shilling' to just talk about the positives. Yes there are positives and there are many things to like. But it's good to have a true pros/cons. As I liked your approach, I clicked to like vid and subbed. Small points - your vid could have been a bit 'tighter' in its structure eg you referenced not liking dual rosette based tilt/locking knobs and how to fix via a rubber washer insert on about 3 separate occasions. Unless as and end summary of key points, then repetition seems a bit 'random' and feels like the comments were ad hoc and 'off the cuff' rather than planned. Thats ok (personal choice etc) but it can appear less professional. Message is key, ideally comments and visuals should fully align with key communication points - which can lead to better comms and also typically shorter/clearer too. Final point, it's ok to fail to get 'footage' (as in sh#t happens) but by 'fessing up' it does make you seem a tad more 'amateurish' albeit on the flip side it emphasises your integrity and honesty - maybe.... just try not to 'shoot yourself in the foot'? But good effort. I'm seriously considering buying an Amaran 300c (got some obvious limitations) rather than a GVM 300c (looks good value) as I have several other Amaran lights 3 x Amaran 200xS heads, an Amaran F22c, planning to also buy a few Amaran Ace 25c units too and it makes more sense to run off one Sidus Link app. Also I have a Aperture Power bank and fresnel lens so merit in staying within A's ecosystem. Yet a part of me thinks why spend circa £500 on a medium powered key light like a 300c (prob not really bright enough) but save/splurge on something like an Aputure Storm 1000c. I know that's a lot more expensive and probably severe overkill as I'm an amateur hobbyist (long term stills shooter) attempting to skill-up and kit-up for videography. But I think I can afford it - and when I consider what I have already spent on serious cameras, lenses and high-end sound kit, a little extra in lights isn't unreasonable.

That's because they were all sanctioned by GVM. They were gifted the light and were told not to say anything negative about it. Usually when a company does that, the are hiding something. So, I decided to go out on my own, without the arm tied behind my back. Most companies I deal with want the feedback so they can improve their product. This is just not one of them. GVM has had a lot of questionable advertising practices over the years. From stealing other channel's content and re-editing them in to commercials for their brand, to bribery for review. My style is more of a Gaffer & Gear/ live stream style. So yes, a little less polished that all the fancy over-produced content you see on KZbin. I try to get right to the point. I can't tell you how many videos I can skip 3 to 5 minutes of before they get to the point. Unfortunately, most of these are filmed here and there when I get a few free minutes, due to family life and responsibilities. I do know about the repeat in content. That is something I'm trying to work on for the new year. I have the 300C. It's nice. A bit bulky though. And I would skip the projector mount. It's pretty trash. Sticking with one brand, although not necessary, is a good idea. Sounds like for what you are doing, unless you need to replace/match a flash, the 300c should be fine. I know many photographers that use the 300 and others that use more powerful lights. It really depends on what you are doing. The right tool for the right job. I'm trying to get my hands on the Nanlite FS-300C and do a comparison between the two. Fingers crossed. I'm glad you found value in the review and thanks as always for the feed back. And thanks for subscribing! ;)

What an awesome review. You know how RARE it is to not see an honest review where we can see the pros and cons? God Speed good sir. Keep the integrity. Might go the Nanlite FS-300B bc a working videographer really likes them and the colors look very nice from what I see. Also, it has an integrated power supply and on a godox light I've had those XLR cables get stuck and all the wires are a pain in the ass. I have some GVM panels and for some reason yea, magenta color in my opinion when getting in the higher kelvins.

@@Ranger7Studios That's good to know. I'm still thinking about getting an RGB monolight though. Just seems really fun. Have you seen the Neewer CB300C ?

Do you have any idea how hard it was to find this video? KZbin simply won't display it. I did a ton of searching on Google and finally stumbled on it by searching for how to use the g/m offset to correct the obvious green tint.

Great Review! Would this light work well with an Aputure Light Dome 3?

Yup. Should as long as it si bowens mount. Keep in mind, any modifier will change the color of the light slightly. But that's every light.
