To me it looked like Jimin was rising up while people/haters were trying to pull him down. I doubt it was anything religious. BTS discography always uses autotune and dark clothes for inner fears/ shadows which can be seen in Black Swan too. Dark clothed people also represents the haters as in not today, mic drop.

Jimin came to L.A to make this song. The choir is an African American choir(reminiscent of ON also with an African American choir from L. A.)and the choreography is done by Sienna and the Lab Dancers. Side note: Being a producer yourself there is a video on the making of On, ft the choir and the UCLA Marching band I think you would really enjoy it. Big Hit/Hybe always knows where to be the best quality singers, choreographers, producers, professionals for their MVs.

The writing on his body is in German and it is a Gerrman poem, "I Live My Life in Widening Circles. You can Google it. It is only two stanzas, but very powerful and meaningful to Jimin and this song. In the early choreo the dancers are in a swirl formation swirling out like a "Widening Circle".

Sorry this is long winded - but - He said he is trying to express the grand scale of the song and [the ideas of] determination, passion, and overcoming. “Set me free” means setting himself free, so he thought it was important that he be the one to set himself free - not someone else. He also said in an interview that he would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. That he wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. Black and white, good and evil, darkness and light. He is setting himself free from the early years of insecurities, bullying, hate, death threats- he is saying I’m done with all you opps/haters (oppositional people) fvck off and get away from me, I’m on my own path of enlightenment (referenced as the spiral in verse 1) and I am going to live my life as me. “It's begun, my prime time” - so it’s started now - his solo time, his time to be himself. There so many hidden gems in this song, this choreo, these lyrics - go on down that rabbit hole with the rest of us - will ya?

❣Jimin’s “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production! Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this makes me that much more excited, waiting in anticipation for release of the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” on March 24, along with his other, main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! This is aside from Jimin’s full range, hardly ever being shown, aside from high notes, but being finally able to show his full registry, mid range as well as lower registry as well! I’ve always been so frustrated not being able to see as well as hear Jimin’s full capacity of talent. So often not being fully taken advantage of, but that comes with being part of a group, that has every single member having so much talent that it’s been so limiting for Jimin, especially him being so selfless, making a point of having others shine before himself. Now the spotlight will be just on him! Though we’ve seen Jimin’s amazingly spectacular, so mesmerizingly outstanding solo performances before. But now, as Jimin himself, mentioned, he’ll indeed be showing the depth of his raw inner self! In an interview Jimin explained: "I tried to express the grand scale of the song and [the ideas of] determination, passion, and overcoming. “Set me free” means setting myself free, so I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free - not someone else. In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free. I would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white."

Thanks for the great reaction! Our Jiminie is multi-faceted and multi-talented! And you’re right - he IS an Angel, beautiful, inside and out! My interpretation is that he has set himself free in two ways: 1) from all the haters who have dogged him (cyber-bullied, threats of physical harm and mocking his talents ) since the very beginning, for no reason other than by toxic shippers (so-called Army) of other BTS members; and 2) from years of pre-conceived notions of who others think he is/should be - stereotypes and expectations placed on him. He has broken through / shed all his fears, insecurities etc., to finally be who HE really is; and he’s not afraid to show the world anymore! I love, adore and respect him so much! He is one of the most incredible human beings on this planet and deserves all the love and success his heart desires! 💜👑👼🏻🐥💜

@@AmariLeone I’ve been listening to them back to back and I think there’s a thematic link between the songs. Yoongi’s song is a plea to be released from recurrent doubt and depression, and this one is Jimin breaking through his own persistent doubt in his own ability as well as the doubts of others and forcing the release. And it’s weird, but I hear Yoongi’s voice in this song, in the short repeated phrases… “ah, yeah”, “not yet”, “forget”… it’s driving me crazy because he’s not credited (as far as I know).

You've gotten the poem explained, let me add a few things. People noticed early on that the room he is dancing in what looks like a panopticum, it was used in 18th century prisons, where a guard tower was placed in the middle and prisoner cells were all around. Now notably, sociologist Foucault used the panopticum to illustrate power and how it regulates people. Essentially, if you are a prisoner in a prison illustrated above, you do not know when you are watched, so you start to self-regulate, even police others around you. That is a great take on the idea of oppression, and as a double - someone mentioned it is an interesting take on the usual kpop one room/box music videos. Notably, Jimin's album rollout has been much more usual kpop style compared to Indigo and Jack in the Box, but with a twist. It makes me wonder if it is on purpose. ON THAT NOTE, you made me realize that "manipulation" of his voice might be contextual painting 😮 Like, he wants to be free of manipulation, oppression, and so on, and it is literally on his voice. Same with the dancers. Considering how Lie was, I wouldn't be surprised

“I live my life in widening circles” by Rainer Maria Rilke is the German poetry on Jimin's torso. "13" is the tattoo on his wrist. It's his lucky number. His birthday is on 13 October and BTS debut was June 2013. "Nevermind" Lyrics of a song by Agust-D's (Suga) resonated with Jimin, so he had it permanently tattooed on his right side.

Yes Suga has a song called Interlude: Set Me Free but Jimin has said that the two songs do not have a connection. Here's his name part two only because they share the same title.

The writing on Jimin's body is a German poem. Here's the text. Ich lebe mein Leben Poet/Lyricist: Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) I live my life in growing orbits which move out over the things of the world. Perhaps I can never achieve the last, but that will be my attempt. I am circling around God,around the ancient tower, and I have been circling for a thousand years, and I still don’t know if I am a falcon, or a storm, or a great song.

The words on Jimin's chest are from a German poem written in the late 1800's by Rainer Maria Rilke. I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?

Is not a sample, Jimin literally went in the US and recorded with lyric singers all the background choirs lol
The Set Me Free Jimin refers to is Interlude:Set Me Free, in AgustD D-2 album.. It has very different vibe from Jimin's Set Me Free Pt2.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5awaJyLmrOLh9U
