They usually loose about 30% of weight only - FYI: non-dried grapes usually have only about 81weight percent of water, and obviously, although most amarones have a rather large amount of extract (often 35-40gramms per liter) and a high alcohol content (16 vol%, so presumably a bit less than 160g/liter) they are still about 80% water. They have less water than many other wines (since the 19% non-water part of most grapes partially does not end in the wine - because obviously the skin is removed after maceration), but they are still mostly water, obviously.

@@decantswithd your video was very informative! I think it helped me laser in on the age (and ideally price!) range for the bottle I'll be looking for; I'm thinking I'll look for something in the 8 y/o range. I didn't know how cheap they'd be!

Have you tried the 2015 Giuseppe Campagnola Amarone? Easily the best bang for your buck if you can find it. Under $30 and better than $50+ bottles I've had. James Suckling rated it 95 points recently and I was blown away.

I just picked up a bottle of 1999 bertani amarone della valpolicella Classico. This is the first really aged bottle I’ve bought and I have no knowledge or experience with aged wines. Also I haven’t tried an amarone before. Do you know what year this bottle should be drank?
@decantswithd2 жыл бұрын
Amarones can age if stored properly. Easily 10 - 20 years. 25 is a stretch. I would have drunk that bottle between 2010 and 2012

@@decantswithd do you think I should try to resell it or cut my losses and drink it like it’s grape juice?
@decantswithd2 жыл бұрын
@@docmccoy89 It may still be good. 99 was a good year. It all depends on the storage. Drink it! Btw, there is a store in NYC that tries to sell the 97 for $499
