Acts part of this episode of Amarrass Nights:
Padma Shri Lakha Khan, a living legend, is the 7th generation Master of the Sindhi sarangi and truly a keeper of the song book of India's popular music.
Shri Lakha Khan, now aged 75, is perhaps the greatest exponent of the 27-string Sindhi sarangi. His music straddles both the classical and folk domains, with a vast songbook that incorporates Hindu bhajans, Sufi kalaams, popular Hindi tunes, and the ancient stories and oral histories of the region. He sings in over six languages including Hindi, Marwari, Sindhi, Punjabi and Multani, and in each one the result is transcendental.
Shri Lakha Khan's mastery over the 27-stringed folk instrument, and his dedication of over half-a-century to the instrument and his art, has been recognized by the Indian government and he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021.
