Amarula Cream Liqueur | One Minute of Liquor Episode #44

Today Tim reviews Amarula Cream Liqueur. This cream liqueur comes to us from South Africa. The spirit uses the Marula fruit that only grows once a year from the Marula trees. This fruit is interesting because it actually undergoes an internal fermentation, which allows the native animals to get a tad intoxicated when they consume the fruit. This Marula spirit is aged in french oak for two years before it gets blended with a cream. Aromas of hazelnut and cocoa on the nose. The palate is rich and heavy, with flavors of hazelnut, clove and nutmeg. Their is a slight tinge of alcohol but not overbearingly so. Cheers!

I love this stuff. I like pouring some on top of vanilla ice cream. It makes it taste like strawberries and cream.

As a South African , I like to pour it in a wine glass with a generous amount of ice. Twirl the glass and enjoy on a hot day. One glass is ideal , it can be quite sweet. However it’s really nice and creamy. Can pass for desert perhaps

It is definitely rich! I was first introduced to it by South African friends at a Brie while living in Ethiopia. It's perfect for a dessert on a hot day.

Add one part milk to two part marula and enough ice to make the glass sweat. Best thing ever

I bought a bottle after watching Animals Are Beautiful People. I'll probably never drink it---I just wanted it (I have a small collection of old liquor). That said, the guy who sold it to me said the price has gone way up recently. I dunno what it was before, but I paid $32 for my bottle (NC price).

Ok so my parents got a bottle a while back not sure when but right now it's like pudding. It has the consistency of pudding it was never opened I just opened it and nothing came out no liquor no liquid of any kind it was solid like pudding don't think that's normal I think it expired more e like 40 years ago it's so solid. It's not hard it's soft but it pudding like

Cream base liquors have very short best-before dates. They need to be consumed quickly, especially once opened. They should also be refrigerated once opened. I just dumped half a bottle of Carolans Irish Cream down the damn sink because it was like pudding and stunk to hell. I will no longer buy full size bottles of any cream based liquor, if any. That was $15 down the drain. Never had to pour booze out before and I was NOT happy.

I've had a bottle of it for the longest time and it never went bad.

It's a cream liqueur like Baileys, it contains milk so will defo have a "best before date"

Kinda like a Kahlua mudslide so it should be refrigerated also.

@@mississa-b Kahlua is a coffee liqueur, similar to Tia Maria. Also, none of these drinks mentioned require refrigeration, even after opening.

YES. All cream based booze has short expiry dates. Don't buy them if you can't consume them within 12 to 18 months. Refrigerate after opening too.
