I'm speechless.....i never figured i would win again, as I'm just doing it for fun and my boyfriend loves chillies 😆 As you say i didn't do much but water and fertilize and let the plants do their thing 😁 I don't use heatmats when growing seedlings but use residual heat from the radiators under the window sills i have them on. I'm as you titled the video an amateur gardner with a passion for growing my own food and cooking it up ☺️

Thanks Shaun, I didn't realise that the video contained the comment by my daughter. I only had 2 thunder mountain plants growing but they produced nearly 1kg of chillies, they were my most productive plants. They are just finishing fermenting, then I'll taste it to see if I'm just going to keep it as a plain chilli sauce for cooking or make a few additions to make it into something else. Do you have any recommendations for a sauce with thunder mountain chillies? I only started growing chillies last year and it's your videos that have inspired me into getting into growing chillies Other than fertiliser added to the compost when planted up into the final pots I didn't feed them, just had a basic automated watering system to make sure they didn't die when I was working or on holiday. Next year I'll definitely experiment with feeding them and see if I can get better results! Keep up the great videos

those heavyweights look more like regular bell peppers, are those really "chillis"? Maybe there's some language barrier, over here a chili is something that's "hot", everything else is just a bell pepper etc

Lol it's a capsicum so technically not a chilli.
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump Жыл бұрын
Capsicum is the genus. A "bell pepper" or "capsicum" as some people call them are part of the capsicum annuum species of chillies....which is the same species as a jalapeno, and cayenne. Anything that is part of the capsicum genus is a chilli.
@graememartin4454
@graememartin4454 Жыл бұрын
I think like others you should describe that pepper as a Capsicum or bell pepper rather than a 🌶, maybe being pedantic, if so sorry. I know they are all part of the same genus, do you also grow bell peppers?
@ChilliChump
@ChilliChump Жыл бұрын
It is part of the capsicum annuum species of chillies. Even traditional "bell peppers" are part of c.anuum species. I have never understood the differentiation of a bell pepper not being a chilli. The jalapeno, cayenne and many others are also part of the c.annuum species. Some say it is when the variety doesn't have heat, that it is considered a bell pepper, but then what about chillies like the Trinidad perfume which is heatless but part of the c.chinense species. Honestly, it's an interesting debate.
@graememartin4454
@graememartin4454 Жыл бұрын
I agree, I suppose the lack of capsaicin is the issue for some in the distinction. I add bells to my hot sauces for flavour and to bulk and tone down the heat. Love your hot sauce recipes.
