The leaves are cut in half to reduce water loss from them, they dont need much leaf. Also its less likely that the leaves will touch and spread fungal infections. I do a similar thing with pelargoniums that are very leafy.

Wouldn't they be more open to infection now that you've damaged (weaken them) them and provided entry?

I can't see where you actually cut the plant. And is this technique any different for soft wood cuttings?

Interesting with the rocks. I never saw that before but I did use rocks instead of mulch for my potted plants before.

What exactly is grit? I have been trying to find good coarse sand for my cactus, succulent, and herb soil, and I can't find anything decent. Someone said I should use "turkey grit". Where can I find this?

Hi, can you please tell me, the reason for cutting the leaves on a angle . Why the stones and no water before the bag on top of the pot. An extremely interested newbie to getting my plants to grow and not die.
